Edison Cavani was the star on the night as Uruguay ousted European champions, Portugal from the World Cup with a 2-1 victory.
Uruguay took the lead as early as the 7th minute when a cross-field one-two between Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez saw the former head in on the far post from the latter's cross.
Portugal responded swiftly but were denied when Gimenez blocked Ronaldo's shot-header and they were restricted to long range shots.
The European champions started brighter in the second half, Pepe meeting a Gueriero cross to head his side back into the game in the 55th minute. He became the oldest player at 35 years, 124 days to score at the World Cup.
Their joy lasted just seven minutes as Bentacur slid the ball into Cavani's path with the Paris Saint Germain striker hitting the shot first time without losing his stride to restore his team's lead.
Chances were had to come by for Portugal as Uruguay's stingy defence failed to allow any openings. A defence that did not concede a single goal during the group stages.
This is the first time Uruguay have won their first four matches at the World Cup since their triumph at the global stage in 1930.
Cavani's shot on goal was the only one for Uruguay in the second half as they saw about him just 30 percent of the ball.
Uruguay 🇺🇾 will now face 🇫🇷 who defeated Argentina in the quarterfinal.
