Marcus Rashford's Man of the match performance gave Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at The Theatre of Dreams in what was his first start in the EPL since December 26, 2017.
United made three changes to their team with, Eric Baily, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata replacing Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard and injured Juan Mata. Liverpool's only change was James Milner starting ahead of Jordan Henderson.
Rashford latched unto a Romelu Lukaku flick on to cut outside of Trent Alexander-Arnold before firing past Karius into the far corner to give United the lead in the 14th minute and doubled his team's advantage in almost similar fashion in the 24th minute before a 66th minute Eric Baily own goal gave Liverpool a lifeline for a possible comeback but United held their ground for a three points.
It was a game of "number" for the Young English star, Marcus Rashford, who was scoring his first brace since making his debut in February 2016. His first strike was his first goal since December 10 and he got his second of the afternoon 10 minutes later. The goals took his tally this season to 12 in all competitions with 6 in the Premier league.
Rashford has been frozen out of Jose Mourinho's side for a while now and would be very glad that his 2 shots on goals were the only shots United had on target and it was enough to grab them the required 3 points.
The loss was Liverpool's 68th against their fierce rivals, Manchester United in League competition, the highest they have suffered from any team and leaves them 5 points adrift of United with 8 matches to go this season.
Manchester United play Liverpool next in the Champions League before facing Brighton in the League and Liverpool tackle Watford in the league.

@reservedsingle after rewatching that match clips over and over i could not stop to wonder why mourinho have been benching Rashford when ManU have always been finding it hard to open up space in oppositions defense

That's Jose for You. He feels he can do as he likes. Perhaps, he doesn't have much likeness for the lad even when he always proves vital. Also, the arrival of Sanchez spelt doom for the youngstar.

We all no that mourinho does not know how to develop young talents like Guardiola, Wenger and other coaches he can only utilize finished products look at Pogba under him how i wish both pogba and rashford have been playing under Pep you would have seen them in their best instead of that he will always complain that his players are not defending enough.......as far as tonight's game is also concerned if jose really wants to score a goal he must use Rashford because to me sanchez is just like a defender playing attacking role currently in ManU

And even with Rashford starting the game.. Nothing positive. It was all down to Jose's tactics
