Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique has finally hung his boot from the international football, following a disappointing world cup outing in Russia where the former world champions were eliminated in the knockout stage by hosts, Russia on penalty shootout.
Pique was part of the 2010 world Cup winning squad and the team that conquered Europe at the 2012 Euros finals.
His time although in the national team of recent has not been going smoothly following his open declaration showing support for the Catalan national state which has attracted much criticism from Spanish fans.
Prior to the World Cup in Russia however he had already hinted that it could be his last outing as a member of the La Roja.
Despite former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique having taken over the national team job, Pique has decided to call it quit, not relishing a reunion with his old boss.
The 31-year old who has been capped 102 times by Spain Joins fellow compatriot and former club-mate, Andre Iniesta who retired from the national team after the World Cup.
