Sevilla have appointed Vincenzo Montella as their new coach. He replaces Eduardo Berizzo, who was sacked just a week after returning from treatment for prostate cancer. ‘Sevilla FC and the Italian coach Vincenzo Montella have reached an agreement for him to become coach of the first team until June 2019.’ read a club statement from the Andalusian club earlier.
The Italian is something of a surprise choice having himself been dismissed from his job at AC Milan only last month. This will be the 43 year old’s sixth coaching role but his first outside of Italy. He will spearhead the side’s challenge for a top four place in La Liga and will also be in the dugout as Sevilla take on Manchester United in the last sixteen of the Champions League.
