We had yet another day with Champions League football yesterday and I have got to admit that there were some surprising results coming up. First, I was not surprised to see Bayern München win 5-0 against Viktoria Plzen. That was actually one of the most expected results. But, I was curious to see whether FC Barcelona or Inter would win, because both teams had three points before the match after beating Viktoria Plzen, while both lost against Bayern Munchen. Well, the Italian team won 1-0 yesterday, giving them a little advantage on FC Barcelona. But, they will soon play against one another once again, and if FC Barcelona should win that match, they will both be stuck with six points behind Bayern.
One of the biggest surprises to me was how Ajax lost 6-1 against Napoli on the Amsterdam Arena. I know, Napoli is a good team, but Ajax is a solid team as well, and they are not at all used to losing 6-1 in any match at all. Don't forget, this is a team that almost got to the Champions League final a few years ago! In other words, a great surprise. Liverpool, however, might be happy about this, because it gives them a three points advantage to Ajax. Jurgen Klopp's team won 2-0 against Rangers yesterday, meaning that they have second place in the group behind Napoli.
But, when we speak of surprises... Club Brugge keeps on impressing. Yesterday, they won against Atletico Madrid (2-0). What's so special about that? After three matches, the Belgian team has 9 points and they are almost the first team to secure a spot in the knockout stage. If they win one more match, they will for sure get there. This is especially true knowing that all the other teams has 3 points after 3 matches. So, come on Club Brugge, this is impressive (they are in the same group as Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and FC Porto).
Sporting FC was awesome a few weeks ago as they won against Tottenham, but yesterday, they got back to earth as they lost 4-1 against Marseilles.
