Australian Championship 2017/18 will definitely be memorized because of horrible fail of VAR system coincided with referee’s crucial mistake.
Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory has clinched in play-off final. Scoreline was open already on 9th minute by Melbourne striker Kosta Barbarouses. During this episode no less than 3 Melbourne players was offside, but 30 seconds before the goal VAR system at Energy Australia Stadium has failed and therefore didn't spotted the clear offside.
The problem was solved within following minutes but it was too late to cancel the goal. Barbarouses goal was the only goal of the game and brought another title to Melbourne side in the very nervous and sometimes extremely violent clash.
Newcastle Jets expressed their disappointment after the game:
We are extremely disappointed at this failure of the VAR technology. And we understand the disappointment and frustration of the Newcastele Jets, their fans and indeed all football fans.
Oh really? Actually we are worried about medical condition of some linesmen and especially their ability to use eyes properly.
I no nothing about Australian football and only took interest because of the VAR headline but apart from the VAR failure, it's surprising to hear that football in Australia can be violent. It's a shame
