You deserve to be a decision-maker
Football Clubs are shy when giving power to soccer fans, producing a feeling of confusion among crowds.
Fans are becoming more influent in the decision-making process, enabling lower-division clubs to financially face top-league ones.
In Germany’s Bundesliga, the football association passed a law that every club has to be
owned 51% by fans so financial personnalities have a limited influence.
But is it really enough?
Real Madrid and Barcelona FC perfectly illustrate the role fans play in the financing part. But this does not seem to be enough to prevent the club’s president from shutting the stadium’s door whenever he feels like it.
Las Palmas and FC Barcelona played behind closed doors back in 2017 because of the political tension caused by the referendum over the independance of Catalonia.
However, the decision had solely been taken by the FC Barcelona’s authorities.
Is Real Madrid really governed by its fans?
Here, we’re going to focus on Real Madrid, where fans own 100% of the team.
How is it possible? Thanks to a 123€ annual membership Real Madrid put into place, for instance. This system filters fans and enables active ones to get priviledges.
The 100,000 active members can thus elect representants who are supposed to respect the crowd’s desires when it comes to voting.
Yet, when it comes to leading the club, the President is asked to put a large sum of money on the table — around 57,4 million Euros. This is where the democratic system turns into a plutocratic one — where the population’s power only goes as far as choosing representants.
This may generate gaps between the crowd’s desires and the representant’s decisions.
Even if Florentino Perez has been doing a relevent job for a very long time, fans are not really involved in managing their favorite team due to financial limitations.
The blockchain technology as a proven successful system to empower crowds
A more humane system is possible. A shift of paradigm is already taking place in other industries: the art world, communications and social networks are all changing because of decentralized platforms.
Our idea has been influenced by the real life application of the Pirate Party of Sweden.
The Pirate Party believes that people with access to free communication a good culture and
solid knowledge: grow, feel better and create a more enjoyable and humane society for everyone to live in.
This is a whole new world for Football
Football is no exception regarding these issues. The United Fans platform can improve this structure and help clubs improve dramatically the involvement of their fans.
The voting power fans already have in some football clubs will be widened to the point where they will be able to express their opinions and take massive action from it.
Which player deserves a better pay? Who should we hire as the next coach?
These questions are just the surface of the iceberg fans will be able to answer — by themselves!
How?
Similarly to other decentralized platforms, some of the football club decisions involve raising money. The innovation here relies on the blockchain technology which will make it possible for fans to manage their favorite team in a secure way.
