Bristol City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Carabao Cup Quarter Final after Korey Smith scored a dramatic injury-time winner to send the Championship side into the last four.

Nobody gave Bristol City a chances, especially as United had a strong team out and were defending their crown from last season, but Bristol City went ahead after a spectacular opening goal by Joe Bryan, only to be pegged back by a Zlatan Ibrahimovic equaliser.

Then with extra time looming Smith scored with the last kick of the game to land them a semi-final tie with Manchester City.

It was an exciting match and both teams were going for the win. United almost took an early lead through Ibrahimovic. Anthony Martial's back-post cross found the striker, whose knock-back hit the crossbar.

Rashford then rattled the post just after 20 minutes with a thunderous low strike. It wasn’t all United, though. A last-ditch Daley Blind tackle denied Smith, who was through on goal and just the keeper to beat.

United were the dominant side, as you’d expect but they did seem to lack rhythm. It was 0-0 at half-time but not long after the home side went 1-0 up.

A counter attack from Bristol City instigated by Bryan, who picked the ball up inside his own half. He flicked the ball over Blind, and started the counter. He followed his run and founf the ball again before producing a stunning strike from a tight angle into the top corner.

United weren’t behind for long. Just eight minutes later, Ibrahimovic celebrated his return with a powerful 20-yard strike from a free-kick on the edge of the area.

Mourinho sent on Lukaku and Henrik Mkhitaryan in search of a winner. Lukaku could have won it for United and was unlucky on three occasions, but the Belgian forward was foiled by Bristol City keeper Luke Steele.

Then with extra time imminent, in the 90+3 minutes up stepped Korey Smith. Matty Taylor was given space down the left and his cross dropped perfectly for Smith who was inside the area. He kept his composure and fired a low effort past Sergio Romero, to send the red half of Bristol into an early Christmas celebration.

I am a gashead - Rovers fan, but fair play to Bristol Shitty, haha united and well done and congratulations to all the shitty fans!

Gashead? Never heard that name for Bristol Rovers fans. Sorry, fan. Oh, wow! How unlikely! Nice to meet the one and only Bristol Rovers fan, ironically on a Bristol City blog, haha.

Your post is so good and standard. I am just upvote your post plz upvote my poste @hrishikesh

Thanks

Such an impressive style of conveying what exactly went on the field, it felt as if I was watching a live match!

A live wire performance indeed by both the teams.

Thank you

very good post

thanks

It was sad to see United lose to Bristol. I didn't see it coming at all. I expected a win from Mourinho's boys considering their recent forms. The goals Lukaku missed is just heartbreaking... his attempts got everyone off their seats expecting a jubilation. #OWB

But they weren't good enough on the night. Heartbreaking for some, but Bristol City deserved their win and good luck to them. Not many people will be too upset that United lost.

I was not happy they lost to a team like Bristol. I hope they will make their fans happy as they visit King Power Stadium today. I expect a win from them as they face Lecister that has managed to get 26 points so far. #OWB

Another slip up. They're just not good enough, to be honest with ya.
It must be difficult for United fans watching City play some of the best football we have seen by an English team?

I agree with you on this. United showed their inconsistency against Leicester after a come back by Juan Mata which later led to a die minute goal by Harry Maguire in the 94th minute. Mourinho needs to build cohesion in his team if he really wants to progress.

City? Lets not talk about them now. They are really on top of their game. From the goalkeeper to defenders and attackers - they are top-notch. No loss so far this season with just a draw. Their future is bright in the premier league this season. #OWB

If you take City out of the equation, United aren't doing too badly. They are nowhere near as good as they were under Fergie, but they are improving. Only thing is City have improved exponentially.
