American rap star Sean 'Diddy' Combs looks set to buy NFL franchise Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers has been put up for sale by owner Jerry Richardson following allegations against him of workplace misconduct. The billionaire owner announced his intention to sell the franchise after the NFL began an investigation into the claims.
The 81-year-old, a former NFL player, has been a majority owner of the Panthers since it began playing in the NFL as an expansion franchise in 1995.
The news alerted P-Diddy, who then posted a video on social media saying he wanted to be the first African-American majority owner in the NFL. What’s more, soon after this, former NBA star Stephen Curry said he’d be interested in joining the rap star in the takeover.
While declining to comment on the nature of the allegations its owner, a spokesperson for the Panthers said it was "committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and diverse work environment where all individuals, regardless of sex, race, colour, religion, gender, or sexual identity or orientation, are treated fairly and equally".
Combs, who is valued at $820million, asked his followers to spread the word and said it was time for diversity in the sport. ANf the all star team up with Stephen Curry, who is a two-times NBA most valuable player, is starting to excite NFL fans not just in Carolina.
It’s believed, if the pair do team-up to take over the Panthers, they will invite quarterback Colin Kaepernick to sign for them. The 29-year-old's protest against the star spangled banner angered the NFL and his owners at the 49ers, and he has been without a team since he opted out of his contract.
Combs, formerly known as Puff Daddy, said it would be his aim to get Kaepernick on board "immediately" and that the Panthers would be a franchise of equality.

It just seems a little ... well ... odd that all of these music and sports stars are combining to buy an NFL team. It’s a bit over the top isn’t it? Btw I don’t mean the article, it’s a good article, I just mean the whole situation in general.

Yeah, I know what you meant, no worries. I think it's a good thing, and he's almost a billionaire, so he can afford it. And it'll be good to see something other than a rich white or arab owner of a big club/franchise.
