Pre-season matches are mainly to get fit. That is what I believe. I believe after the long break, players need some friendly matches to get their fitness back to 100%. I do play football manager too and you see the players condition in red after returning from the long term breaks. I do organize some friendly matches so as to keep them fit.

By the time they play one or two matches, you will see their condition is getting filled back and also their match fitness. It is just to shake that rustiness. One important benefit of pre-season matches is to integrate new players into the team.

The transfer window is there to sign players in order to improve the club. Some of your loan players are also back with the team with some exciting youth team players. The pre-season matches is a perfect way for you to blend them in. Who knows, you may notice the next Messi in your youth team or the next Alvaro Morata.

Yesterday saw Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 7 – 3. It is the International Champions Cup and the score line is surprising. Shipping in 7 goals against your rival is bad. It is a source of concern.

Well, I don’t think it is anything serious considering it is a friendly match. We saw Pochettino apologize to Manchester united in their last friendly match. Sissoko appeared to have stamped new boy Daniel James which led to him apologizing. Imagine if it was the league proper. I don’t think there is any need apologizing as everything is tensed up and you only want to win.

Pre-season matches are fun. Get the fitness level back on, Integrate new players, and who knows maybe you can find a good youth team player for your team.

I think Zinedine Zidane don’t have to worry. The players will play better during the competitive matches. The hunger and desire to win will be there. The only worry in the loss is the fans. Fans are impatient especially Real Madrid fans. They want to win and win. You just need to calm them down and tell them look it is just a friendly.

Pre-season matches don’t have a say in the real matches. A thing of note to Zidane, I do lose my pre-season matches as manager of Real Madrid too but end up going the season unbeaten.

Some pre season games are more than pre season games, the result against Atletico Madrid is not too good for a team like Real Madrid with all the star players.
