Foraging mushrooms - the big find

in foraging •  7 years ago

This morning, my wife and I went for mushrooms, we managed to find many young honey mushrooms, suitable for marinating and 25 boletus edillus, which we will dry for mushroom soup in the winter. Here are some photos of today's quiet hunting.

Wow. What a bountiful harvest. Do they last you until the following autumn?

So, it's easy, the main thing is to sterilize well the cans and make a good marinade

Familiar mushrooms. White, or Borovik, this is the best mushroom in Russia. Soup it is divinely tasty and nourishing. Congratulations on your rich trophy. And in my field this year, no harvest of mushrooms. Was just chanterelles. Unfortunate for mushrooms summer.(

we have, conversely, a record harvest of white mushrooms

Now that is a great haul of mushrooms! Nice foraging! How soon will you preserve or eat all of those? Will you preserve most of them? Or maybe you had a grand feast! :D

These mushrooms have already been marinated and sterilized in glass jars, so they can be stored for more than a year.

You have a great mushroom foraging spot! Do you go to the same location every year? Happy foraging!

I pich up mushrooms in different places, although there are permanent ones among them

I might see a Macrolepiota species in there and newbies should make sure that they don't have Chlorophyllum molybdites, the toxic lookalike. They are easily distinguished from eachother by the green gills/spores in C. molybdites. As for the Macrolepiota, those are a little tougher to identify to species.

I agree with you, mushrooms in the forest must be taken very carefully, because there are many cases of poisoning. Therefore, I do not recommend newbies to collect mushrooms in a book, but only with an experienced mushroom picker.

Thanks for posting. I'm in awe of your ability to find all these shrooms. We get a lot of honey mushrooms in this area (Central CA, U.S.), but I have not tried eating any yet, until I'm absolutely certain about my identification skills.

You are doing the right thing, beginners should pick mushrooms in the forest only with an experienced mushroom picker
