For the first time, the Ford Film Collection is now searchable within the National Archives Catalog (NAC), the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration’s (NARA) online database. Now, having to physically visit Archives II, in College Park, MD, is NOT the only option to investigate these historic films of early Americana, World War I, automobile production, airplane manufacturing, and World War II activities (just to name a few subjects). As a “citizen archivist” I volunteered to organize and electronically describe the films in the collection based on the paper records provided by the Ford Motor Company. It took a few years, but ultimately NARA received over 3,500 individual title descriptions and now about 90% of those have been uploaded into NAC for your research pleasure. Over 500 Ford films have also been digitized so far and uploaded. To browse the collection, go to https://catalog.archives.gov/id/90439. Enjoy!
