I'm torn on both of these. I don't like war in general, obviously, and it should be avoided unless truly necessary. I can understand both sides of the "fund or not fund" arguments for both Israel and Ukraine. Ukraine is a democracy (imperfect, as they all are) that was invaded by a much larger, dangerous autocracy that could threaten much more of Europe, so stopping Putin in his tracks seems like a good idea now rather than later. But Israel, again a highly imperfect democracy, is surrounded by regimes that want them totally destroyed and wiped from the planet, and all these regimes are funded/supported by and doing the bidding of Iran, a dangerous autocracy that could totally upend the US economy and is developing nuclear weapons.
Getting involved in wars in Europe and the Middle East doesn't sound like a good idea. Allowing Russia and Iran to succeed unimpeded sounds like a bad idea. And then what do we do when China invades Taiwan? We can't be the world police, I don't want us to be, but sometimes maybe the alternative is worse.
And yes, I know there are also arguments about how the US and Europe policies towards NATO and Ukraine helped create this situation, just as there are arguments that Israel's policies created that situation. Then you can dive deeper to understand why NATO, Ukraine, and Israel created those policies. It goes on and on, back and forth.
I'm conflicted and hoping for the best. But I'm confident our great thinkers and leaders like Biden, Harris, Trump, Schumer, McConnell, and the Secretary of Defense (if he's not in the hospital) will make all the right decisions.
