Forgotten Friday: Roadside Castle Ruins in Ireland.

in forgottenfriday •  8 years ago

It's Forgotten Friday again!  Every Friday I share some kind of cool abandoned, deserted, or otherwise forgotten piece of civilization that we've came across on our travels.

Sadly, I don't know much information about the subject of this post.  This was the first glimpse of ancient ruins that we came across when we started driving around Ireland.  That's the crazy thing though, there are historical ruins EVERYWHERE in the country.  When we saw this one, we pulled over quickly and snapped some photos.

Even though cool sights like this are common in the country, this one was kind of unique because it sat way up on a hill and overlooked the surrounding region.

Whoever lived here must have had one hell of a view.  I tried scouring through a bunch of Irish castle photos to try and identify this one, but came up empty handed.  I'd love to know the name of it.  Unfortunately, it was such a quick and unplanned stop, I don't even remember WHERE in the country we were at the time.  Bummer.

^^^View from the highway.

nice pics - you are very photogenic :) @customnature

The hill complements the castle. I wonder how magnificent it looked when it was built.
