Lydia was wearing his eye patch. She wanted to see the smile on her big pirate's face when he sees that Lady Lydia Hutton is now a pirate. Her binoculars were quivering as she anticipated Noel. She had been travelling from China back to the queen's kingdom, he had stopped the ship midway and looted it. Their eyes had met across the panic. That night Lydia had sneaked away to the pirate ship. That was the first time she'd worn his eye patch. Talking to him was the easiest things in the world. They swapped stories of travel. She traveled in the finest circles, he in the lowest dregs of kingdoms. They shared the quirks and madness of the people they met. Somehow life felt complete. But when the time to say good-bye came, there was silence. There were no promises to be made. Lydia gave him a jade pin to remember her by. He gave her his eye patch. It was only there to make him more menacing. "This seems to have escaped the purge of my men. I should fire the whole lot of them." He said laughingly. "Lydia..." "It's okay Mark" (pirates have names too). On that unsatisfactory statement she left. They went on to their daily lives. Each storing stories for the other. Yet knowing that they might not ever meet again. The time came for Lydia to marry. She was resigned to her fate. One of the footman came up to her and gave her a note. A jade pin fell out of it. My dear Lydia, a pirate is not worth his salt if he can't claim his booty. Lydia wore her eye patch and took a set of binoculars to go find her prince.
