@vermillionfox's lovely and mysterious art for Foxtales #10

@jazzhero here joining the fray in the last few hours of the submission window. I chanced upon @vermillionfox's story contest last night along with last week's winner announcements. Those were really creative and interesting entries. It got me really inspired, so I decided to join in.

The contest is about writing a one-paragraph story that's inspired by @vermillionfox's art seen above. As an added challenge writers can add in a "secret message" for readers to uncover.  And because I'm a fan of  Detective Conan, I wouldn't miss the chance to hide a mystery message inside my story. Haha.

Silent Digits

Ignore her. All instincts demand her to flee but she betrays them and stays. This is a lesson she paid dearly to learn once. She fakes nonchalance, fiddles with her hair, never looking back. She focuses her view to the left but never daring to turn around. A single misstep or two is all it takes for her to lose again in this twisted game she never won. Never ending. It starts without rhyme or reason; like a wind scorning a silent tree, coming to strip away its greens - its life. And as intense and as wicked as the wind, she makes her presence known. Be still. A withering coldness veils the top of her head then caresses down her short hair. Breathe. Just breathe.... The moment slim iced-blue fingers touched her nape, all dread came bursting forth. Run!

Cheers everyone! I hope you have a fun time looking for it :)

Some hints for the short secret message (four words long):
think about the title and the art (specifically the eyes).

Great story. It is one paragraph but I wanted more!

I like your concept on the short secret message I hope my guess it is right but it looks like left

@steem-untalented

The white veil gave it away, as a hint I guess. But then again I think without that part you'll still feel the intensity. I loved the skill and passion in this one, I feel like reading one of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories. Something like "The Fall of the House of Usher". EAP Just came back to life!

Comment is over 9000. That's too high, too much hehe. But thanks again for the recognition. I did try to make it intense. I was aiming for a horror movie scene.
But EAP is really too much haha. More power @jamesanity06

Thanks, @maverickinvictus. The art and other entries this week and the previous weeks were all an inspiration. Had fun reading the others' work - all awesome.
Haha. I think you're on the right track, but it'll be left to you how to interpret it, depending on your perspective. But there's also one other side of the clue, hope you got it as well.

Oh my God! Another talented writer has joined the fray! I love how you replaced commonly used words with rarely used ones but still ends up in rhymes.

Thank you for the kind praise. I really like the narrative and atmosphere in your entry too :)
It's really interesting that there are many creative interpretations of the art.
Kudos to @vermillionfox for triggering our creativity hehe

Damn! Left me hanging there. Now this is a story I could get into. I wonder if you do mentoring? I badly need help. Thanks for sharing your talent and giving us awesome reading material (too short T.T). Lodi!

Thanks a lot but you are way too good, def not in need of mentoring :)
I liked your story too. You should write more often hehe so we could your amazing materials too.

Thank you but I do recognize that I have a long way to go :) I like your way of drawing the readers in. The presentation kept me wanting for more despite knowing it's supposed to be a one-paragraph story.

you made my mouth open and keep my nose bleeding.,

thank you, sir @g10a :) I'm glad you found it intense hehe. Really thanks for the support. Stay cool!

A very interesting story. I can't say that I've figured out the secret message, but I can say that "The moment slim iced-blue fingers touched her nape, all dread came bursting forth. Run!" reminds me of White Walkers. :D
