Belfort: 
Après Colmar, le peloton poursuivra sa route sur les traces de l’architecte Auguste Bartholdi, père du lion de Belfort qui symbolise la ville. Lors de la dernière visite du Tour en 2012, l’animal avait transmis sa force et son courage à un tout jeune coureur dont le talent commençait à s’exprimer : quelques heures plus tard, Thibaut Pinot, novice sur le Tour et âgé de 22 ans, remportait à Porrentruy sa première victoire d’étape.
After Colmar, the peloton continues its path on the tracks of architect Auguste Bartholdi, creator of the Lion of Belfort that symbolises the city. During the last visit of the Tour in 2012, the mighty animal seemed to have transmitted his power and courage to a young rider who would soon express his talent: several hours later, Thibaut Pinot captured in Porrentruy his first stage win on the Tour at the age of 22.
CHALON SUR SAONE: 
Les connaisseurs du sport français ont suivi l’émergence de l’Elan Chalon, double vainqueur du championnat de France de basket (2012, 2017). Mais en matière de cyclisme, les historiens remarqueront que Brian Robinson, le pionnier du cyclisme britannique originaire du Yorkshire, s’y était imposé en 1959 au terme d’une longue échappée solitaire. Lors de la dernière arrivée à Chalon, c’est en piégeant les sprinteurs dans le dernier kilomètre que Thierry Marie remportait sa seconde étape sur le Tour 1988.
The specialists of French sports might have followed the emergence of l’Elan Chalon, two-time French basketball champions (2012, 2017). But in terms of cycling, historians will have noticed that the pioneer of British cycling, Brian Robinson, had won there in 1959 after a long solo breakaway. On the occasion of the last visit to Chalon, Frenchman Thierry Marie managed to stay clear of the hungry bunch in the final kilometre to claim his second Tour stage in 1988.
