Lactalis, withdrawn milk powder in 83 countries "contaminated with Salmonellosis"

Lactalis, the world's first group of dairy-dairy products, has decided to withdraw from the market in 83 countries of "12 million packs" of products destined to early childhood from the factory in Craon, in the west of France, after the discovery December of some cases of salmonellosis.

This was reported by the CEO of the French company. "Over 12 million boxes have been withdrawn," said Emmanuel Besnier, and distributors know that "everything has to be removed from the shelves".

Already last December, after reports of new salmonella cases registered among newborns in France, the Ministry of Economy had extended the withdrawal and recall measures of food products for infants of the Lactalis group, asking parents "not to use" these products are sold under the Milumel, Picot and Carrefour brands. Hundreds of lawsuits have meanwhile been filed.

So far, French officials have reported 35 cases of children affected by salmonella, while one case has been reported in Spain and another has been investigated in Greece. An association representing the families of children who have been infected that authorities are underestimating the number of cases.

The CEO of Lactalis has promised compensation for all affected families. Created in 1933 by the grandfather of Emmanuel Besnier, Lactalis has become a giant in the sector with an annual turnover of about 17 billion euros. It has 246 production sites in 47 countries.
