Freeing ourselves from the fear of death is one of the blessings of spiritual life. The fear of death is one of the deepest emotions of the human being, in spiritual terms this passion is understood as an unwanted effect of concupiscence. Concupiscence is the disordered desires directed towards the apparent goods such as power, fame, happiness, and money.
The human being is divided into three parts: body, soul and spirit. When concupiscence predominates in consciousness, we say that everything bodily prevails in the mind, because the individual in this scheme becomes a "pleasure seeker", "having fun and have a good time" is the typical phrase of the natural man. It is logical that following this thought the most terrifying for a pleasure seeker is old age and death.
And fear has a consequence, it paralyzes us, affects us deeply, creates obsessions in the mind, that is, phobias, panic attacks for example are an unconscious consequence of this fear, there are people who feel panic about getting on a plane or panic when seeing a snake or panic to the fire to give some examples.
Fear in a metaphorical sense enslaves us and reduces us to servitude, that is, it binds us to unwanted behaviors, which we know are not right and are almost forced.
The bible explains that those who fear death are subject to bondage: "And free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death", Hebrews 2:15

Spirituality, on the other hand, frees us from the fear of death. The bible describes true love: "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear has to do with punishment" 1 John 4:18. Fear and hatred are concomitant emotions, what is feared is hated. Hatred and therefore fear are emotions that do not exist in purified souls.
The exercise of purifying virtues, that is, living the gifts, gifts such as mercy, piety, benevolence not only help others but also free us from our negative aspects, from what binds us and reduces us to servitude, forgive and to be forgiven there is nothing more noble in the human being. The exercise of spiritual gifts frees us from the fear of death. Living the spiritual gifts is a progressive, gradual path, there are no instant results, everything is achieved with constancy, that is, the fear of God. Jesus with his example teaches us this way, he came to show us that way that frees us: "Love your neighbor as yourself", Mark 12:31.
