ANOTHER TRAILER OF JUNK?

Kind of, but it's also another worthwhile project on my end.

These photos were taken before taken before my truck broke, but hopefully we can get a new one today. Anyway, back to the mess on the trailer!

SIMPLE, FREE PROJECTS

Here's my boy Monster Truck the Pepper showing off our trailer load of junk. It's a combination of things including old pallets, scrap roofing metal, discarded screws, some wire fencing, and some five gallon buckets of chicken poop and other things. Can't you just tell it's going to be a great project?

By standing three pallets upright and screwing them together, I've got the base for a compost bin. Composting is an excellent way to not only create a nutrient-rich soil for your plants, but also to get rid of various farm, yard, garden, and food waste. Like many simple things with incredible results, we just think that it makes sense.

Eventually I plan on building a permanent series of these, possibly out of cinder blocks, but for now we make do with what we can, and a free compost bin to start with is a great way to go in our opinion. I added the scrap metal roofing on the inside of the pallets to prevent the pallets from deteriorating any faster. The shorter side facing the camera is the "entrance" where we will add the material from. So far we have put in some leaf litter, food scraps, and other waste, including some of the chicken manure and wood chips. Since some manure is high in Nitrogen, and since wood (like the wood chips) needs Nitrogen to break down, these are a good combination.

We are using a pitchfork to turn the material and once this bin is full, we will add another one next to it while we wait for this one to finish. Again, it's just a simple, free project, but it'll pay off big in the end! That's how we like to do things here on the homestead!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Don’t forget to turn your compost from time to time, I’ve had a compost bin for years it’s better than you can buy , although I don’t I believe if you pee on compost it can speed up the process, cheers mike. Ps the blue tit laid 12 eggs in the end and is incubating full time now

Yup, gotta keep turning it... and peeing on it! LOL

12 eggs now?!?!?! Wow! Can't wait to see them hatch!

Yeah I don’t know how the pee works but I believe it’s good for composting, you’d be surprised to see the amount of insects it will give a home to , it has a lot of benefits all round a good compost bin. Cheers mike

What one person may consider to be junk, is a treasure to another man. I really like the idea of compost bins. We have two that we are using and Imay have to add a third. Nothing on the homestead get wasted!

Nothing is wasted!

Love it! Thanks!

@papa-pepper and his trailer load of junks though lolz... I really like how you turned the junk into the barrier covering the compost bin, and it looks good too! So thats an added bonus. Weldone papa! And @little-peppers lolz.

Good job,i like it

good action

Old skids/palates are NEVER junk.

They are undiscovered projects only limited to your imagination.

Gardening is the good habit .I like gardening .I have a flower garden .

Thanks! I've got some flowers to add to this one...

One mans junk is another man's treasure! 😁 not only are you recycling that material but your recycling all that plant matter , like one big homesteading circle of life ✊

Oh yeah!

What an excellent way to keep your garden friend in order I congratulate you as the appearance of a place is the cover of everything and your project is very good I would add a kind of coverage so they do not see the garbage, greetings from Venezuela
