Suprise suprise, I actually did bother to read a few books about free speech. I actually suffered through some legal decisions which aren't exactly stimulating reading.
It would be nice if people would stop indignantly evoking "incitement" all the time without knowing what the law actually says about it.
No, displaying symbols associated with hate isn't incitement. No, you're not allowed to regulate public speech because of how angered or "triggered" the citizens may be.
Incitement needs to be a direct, deliberate, and focused call for a specific act of violence.
No matter how gross it is to say, "Gas the Jews." that's protected speech. What you can't do is place people in direct, deliberate, and specific danger.
