A common retort to the argument that privacy is a fundamental, unalienable human right is that if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. The populace has been so dumbed down and our humanity so degraded that people now equate liberty with criminality.
We've come so far that people voluntary choose to broadcast their private conversations for the psychopaths at the NSA and major tech companies to spy on, catalog and leverage in the creation a dystopian system of absolute control. They are perfectly content with spending their hard-earned fiat on illegal bugging devices like the Amazon Alexa, all in the name of 'progress' and 'convenience'.
Pardon my coarseness here, but how much of a lazy fuck do you have to be that you'd rather acquiesce to giving a live feed of your house to some tech conglomerate in California than typing out a regular search query on your keyboard.
That, rather than getting off your fat ass and adjust the lighting settings in your apartment yourself, you feel the need to issue a voice-command to Alexa or Siri or whatever flavor of government-sponsored illegal listening device suits you fancy.
That you'd rather to relinquish control of uniquely identifying bio-metric information just so that you don't have to select an icon on your Apple device and type in your user password.
We're quite literally talking time savings in the order of a few seconds here, and this is assuming these devices work properly, which is quite a stretch. In a world obsessed with 'efficiency' and 'productivity', people have been conditioned to ignore basic human instincts and act against their own self-interest.
If we don't act fast and reject this twisted paradigm of invasive, round-the-clock surveillance, then we really don't have much of a future. We need to spread the word, through rational discourse, about the dangers of IoT and 'smart' device technology before it's too late.
Sure we'll be branded tin-foil hat conspiracy theory nut jobs, but for every nine people that laugh in our face and dismiss us as paranoid fear-mongers, one will see the light and come over to our side. As things progressively get worse and worse, so will more people start looking at the current social structure with a jaundiced eye and realize the massive amounts of deception and brainwashing going on in politics, the media and in the tech world.
The price for inaction is the complete erosion of our fundamental rights, which is something no sane, self-interested individual should be willing to give up on.
