I check this site. Thanks Stellabelle.

thank you for introducing me to unsplash! I'm on a flight and I'm going to go there now to check out some images:) also if you don't mind me asking, how and where do you go to get some of those really cool moving images you get on some of your other posts?? those are so freaking cool !

Wow, this such an amazing infomation for me. I know how i struggle to source my images. Sometimes i shy away from blogging because of images, so you can imagin how excited i am seeing this. Thanks @stellabelle.

Great article. I've been meaning to do something on this myself, after climbing through the photography submitted on steemit and realizing it's usually not marked for license either way..

https://search.creativecommons.org/

has about 10 sites to search, and if you search on Bing for "creative commons images" it's pretty amazing how many different sites come up.

just mentioned u in my latest post when ur mentioning of the communities thing liek subreddits the new feature, its gonanbe amazing gonan raise steem price up past $2!

yes 100% true what you say @stellabelle
the last few days I see, many use steemit accounts that take pictures of others and also no permission from the parties concerned.
thank you @stellabelle has reminded us

I'm glad to hear you say its been worse I thought it was just me noticing more these last few days. I hope its not always this bad.

yes it is so that happened a few days.
we seem to see, there is no longer any policy from the steemit curator.

I've been using pixabay from time to time which you have suggested before. I think it definitely is better than sifting through google images as google images has a clutter of junk most of the time and the likely hood of you finding a nice stock photo is harder than using something like unsplash.

Also you have the added benefit (and the most important thing) of having copyright free images. Despite the talk about steemit is decentralised and you can do anything you want is not the right mentality.

Thanks for suggesting another site @stellabelle

no problem. I am often surprised that people don't know about the best copyright-free site to use.....

yeah we gotta start using the copyright free stuff to avoid any legal headaches in the future! very smat! smat indeed !
we should make a roadmap for steemit users for 2017 and 2018!

Thank you @stellabelle for sharing this, I've been using pixabay and pixels before, and it seems I have used all their pictures. lol.

Thank you @stellabelle for sharing this info. I am using pixabay for images. Now i will add unsplash.com in my search list

I will definitely use it, I already have an idea.

also me and @dayleeo have a site we made -- http://nomad.pictures -- when we get on the road we will be adding to it daily.

great, thank you.

Pexels is also amazing

Yes I have pexels and check directly in Photoshop. However I am also a photographer trying to sell my photos and it looks like the potential is drying up.

That is definitely a tough field to get into. So much content out there. I've heard Shutterfly is good.

Thanks for that comment. Shutterfly is one of the sites where it seems the focus is on selling prints etc., incorporating your photos. There are several like that.

The purely sales agencies such as Shutterstock (the Largest), iStock, Getty, Alamy provide a front for Royalty Free sales. Basically the purchaser can use the picture for any purpose for ever.

There are also agencies that market "rights managed" services and by restricting the use to one medium, format etc. they will make more money.

Lastly you can just set up your own web site (Squarespace is common) or a managed web site (Smugmug). With these you do your own promotion and marketing and set your own licence terms.

The problem with the agencies such as Shutterstock is that creators' rewards are so low. The most I have received for an individual photo is $2US. Typical sales are 25c.

You need to sell a huge amount to make any money.

On the customer side, what is the incentive to pay for a photo if you can get something as useful at no cost. For businesses, it is a risk question.

Have I the right to use the photo? If I take this one, what happens if every other business uses the same one?

Many people enter microstock because they have already thousands of photos in their library and want to monetise what they have.

The real microstock winners are photo-factories (Check out Yuri Arcurs).

I have come to Steemit to see whether there is more value for my photos if I make blogs and comment than what straight microstock will provide.

I see you definitely know what you are doing. I think you will be surprised at what the steemit community can bring you.

I wish you luck on your journey and have followed you for the ride. I look forward to more!

I'm also using pexels sometimes but rather for visuals I'm creating for my customers. Personally and for my own use I prefer to take photos and edit them, the result might be mesmerizing.

Great website! I will put this in my bookmarks for sure. Well, I guess people really don't know that there are thousands of good quality pictures that are copyright free. A lot probably don't even realize you can't use any picture you find on the internet as most of them are copyrighted.

Thank you @stellaelle for sharing. I've been using Google sourced images most times and now i know of Unsplash.com .Hope the owners of this site knows what good you've done for them? I mean they should pay you atleast for the Ad..😀😀😀

Check out my blog and Follow me for a Follow back!

That's so true and nowadays I think that our creativity should be used at most....from the moment we have a Smartphone we have a great cam and a chance... Sites like Unsplash y think that are really great! seriously, but make people to rest aout the entire Job Because if 50% a Post must be supported by the images, I think they must come from the creator... To keep going and making you own photo databank is payless too... :)

Thanks for sharing

Thanks @stellabelle this is very usefull I was just searching around for free images yesterday. Some sites say free and are not. This looks great!

I was just thinking I should check and see what you have been posting and here was some info I was seeking.

hi @stellabelle - this is very true. I use https://www.pexels.com/ for my posts, thank you for sharing yours :)

Great post! The other thing I don't understand is why people don't take their own pictures. Smart phones these days have such great cameras. Many of the photos from my blog come from my Samsung S7 Edge!

Peace.

Thanks and Thanks @stellabelle used it immediately and found what I wanted fast

thx for the tip!:)

Hello @stellabelle

People still fail to understand the importance of pictures on their posts.

Some images explains an idea more than words.

Someone who read my post on sunday told me that even my images were quality content.

The use of good images is very important.

@ogochukwu

I agree. 100%

This is great , sometimes things I write need the perfect picture but I don't have personal ones so I use pixabay but don't seem to be satisfied . This seems even better , thank you !

Yayyyy!!!
It works!!!!

Thank you @stellabelle

ah, no problem! Thanks for the wild flowers!

@Stellabelle. Thanks for revealing. We new entrants will certainly find this very useful

@eurogee

Cool...thanks for the link @stellabelle !! I needed that.

Great images! I also use pixabay.com - it's even bigger than Unsplash! :)

Thank you, I appreciate the info. I was just thinking to myself ,"I need some better images to pepper my posts with--umami for the eyes, something more readers than my mother could love", and there your post was. Grats!

A while ago, someone wrote a handy little post about how to find free images through google. They said by searching images, you could select 'Tools' and then filter by 'Usage rights' to find images that are okay to use. I've tried it a few times, but I do always try to read up at the source of the image aswell, just to be sure. To save myself the trouble though, I usually just go for my own pictures. I'm recycling my best ones now and then, but so far, I haven't heard any complaints :-)

Everyday I scan Steemit to see how it is doing.

Apart from appreciating the useful and timely information contained in this brilliant writeup, I want to thank you personally for buying out time from no time to scan through this platform and thus keeping an eye on it. The community definitely needs to be kept an eye on. Thanks for helping out with this.

I usually use pixabay. I'll bookmark this too. Thank you for your kind support. I truly do appreciate it. We need more of you here.

Thank you for your kind support. You have put a strong content

Nice.. Thanks for sharing. Your interest in newbies and the continuity of steemit is applaudable. You have been a great role model to a lot of us here on steemit.

@kayceesuave

It is really help, thank you @stellabelle

Yes i have seen the confusion many times...or found people asking. Tho I prefer to just make my own unsplash is a great one....at the end I start browsing and forget the reason I got there.

Thankyou @stellabelle for sharing.
Good job.👍

I admit that I recently (yesterday) heard about unsplash and pixabay from the good folks at MAP. Still, thank you very much @stellabelle - as I came dangerously close to disregarding that advice.

As much as I'd love to create all the images and illustrations for my writings, I find that such often takes a lot longer than I'd care to admit.

That and my posts tend not to be short in the first place - and I myself find them easier to read with some relevant images thrown into the mix. O_o

So I'd fallen into the bad habit of browsing Google images and picking generally small images to link to (not post per se) with further Source links. My reasoning was (and stubbornly kind of still is (yet eroding)) that I'm only inserting a link to the image that may or may not be legit - and that I'm making clear that its not mine by linkng back to source.

...Well thats the theory. That and the notion that its not 'worth' bugging me about this or that image on a post that earned $0.0X-to $XXX.XX.

However I recognize that a source of licence-free images is optimal. It is a resolution that I shall strongly try to keep.

That and I'll be spreading the word around. Resteemed.

Thanks again. ^_^

Cheers thanks for sharing, but having your own pics is also a feeling of proud.
Its my pic. yup dude i clicked this .. hhaahaha

Muy buena la información que proporciona en este post stellabelle. Es muy bueno encontrar un portal donde se pueden obtener imágenes sin ninguna restricción para poder configurar los post. Saludos

Great information steelaabelle, I didn't had any idea about that so thank you so much.

Unsplash or Pixabay!

I wondered that too, the quality of the post can be greatly reduced with poor pictures. I have mostly used pexels and pixabay. Now I have one more source. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing 👍🏼

Love all the photos here...

The first one got me... glad i found this account today.

Nice to meet you... off to finding more incredible steemians

I have bookmarked the website. It will be useful sooner or later. Thank you @stellabelle.

Thanks for the suggested photo source... will visit.

Spectacular did not know about this site I would love to find a suitable image for the profile background of my blog, I hope to find it, thanks @stellabelle

wow thanks for the tip. I have been using pixabay and google images and some of my own. now I can find more pictures to use. :)

I never heard of Unsplash before. Thanks for sharing about that. I will try that.

Haven't heard about Unplash before. Though I always use my own photos, this is an option in case I ran out ;) Thank you for sharing, @stellabelle !

Thanks for sharing, first time to know about that site. :)

Thank you very much. It's always helpful to have resources.

I am pleased to see your post for those who want to use "free" photos, free as in no cost and free is in legally free to use. It is important to make sure that the photos are actually "free to use" and not someone's copyright. As a photographer, newly trying to sell my own photos, the return from stock agencies is now dropping to the point where it is not worth spending the time to do it. Far better making a funny meme and posting on steemit.

Very grateful for your post @Stellabelle, I can definitely use Unsplash images for my second and other upcoming posts. Thank you!

Thank you so much @stellabelle. This post is wonderful and it is also nice to see that people like you have given themselves to helping minnows grow. Trust me your good works will not go unrewarded. Just keep up the good work. Thanks once again.

nice we need more and more stock photos to use free! we should even make an automated image app where u make a post and it finds apropiate images to match ur blog post man that would make things easy!

maybe the newbie like me still can use the free images here: freeforcommercialuse.net/

Nice @stellabelle May I follow you 😊
