I don't generally post memes, but this one image I found so compelling that I really wanted to share. All those who have seen 1984 remember poor Winston Smith's anguish, huddled in his corner, trying to preserve his sanity by writing in his diary.
Our modern day planetary diary is Facebook and Zuckerberg sees everything you post and when he is not pleased you will feel his wrath.
We're living very dangerous times when efforts are made to curb free speech, be it on Facebook, YouTube or Google. Users whose political views contradict the official narrative are being taken down one by one.
Yesterday, for instance, seemed like a good day, as one of the FB pages I follow, Liberalism is a Mental Disorder, reappeared online, after a month's long ban. However, Big Brother Zuckerberg decided to take down two other conservative pages as off today.
Oh, and also on Facebook today I was presented with an ad for a “no-bias moderated news” page, because why bother my silly little brain reading whatever news source I like and decide for myself when someone is kind enough to offer to do the thinking for me and tell me what to believe.
Getting the Facebook refugees on Steemit
Free thinkers vow to stay on Facebook and spread their views as long as they can, but they are also establishing themselves on other alternative platforms. All of these hope to overtake Facebook one day, just as we, here on Steemit, dream of doing.
This got me thinking than we need to do more to attract free thinkers on this platform and I don't know if us just posting random comments on FB is enough to get the attention needed to attract all those fed with being told what to believe by Zuckerberg.
I know that many fellow Steemians are doing their fair share of spreading the news and getting new users on this platform, but maybe the big guys up there should also get involved, getting some ads running, on Facebook and other platforms.
Once people get established on alternative platforms it will be harder to get them invest time and money to come on Steemit.

There is nothing free about fb imo . . it's totally censored to the bone. But you are right. Getting people established here is a sure fire way to keep them here. I have all but abandoned fb now, except for seeing some life friends pictures, etc . . and I'm happy I did so. FB was a total time sink . . and the idea of earning steem is what originally drew me in. And I love blockchain tech and trading . . it was a win-win for me here.
I hope we can get more to leave the dark side of the force!!

Same here, there is almost no reason left to stay there.
I highly doubt that any articles not deemed appropriate by FB makes it into anyone's feed. The automated censorship, combined with the algorithms, makes posting on FB really a waste of time.

Same. And fb is the ones that get all the money from ads. All the great content people make for fb and recieve nothing in return. To get noticed, you have to pay them a lot of the time. Steemit is much better. I know some people who have a hard time initially here, but after the initial learning process is done it becomes much easier.

I agree, Steemit is still in Beta, i hope they do make the interface somewhat easier. It took me quite some time, and i'm still learning. But its worth the investment. in the last couple of years some mayor shifts inside my mind took place, how i view money, how crypto works, and now this... Its exciting. :D
And at least we don't have to pay anyone, and more importantly, no one can shut us up, lol.

The future looks promising thanks to blockchain technology. We already have blockchain based replacements for almost everything. Steemit for Reddit, Dtube for Youtube, onG.Social for Facebook, etc. More and more people are becoming aware of it and that's a good thing.

Couldn't agree more. Also the fact that onG.social will have a way to stamp out "fake news" is a biggie 👍🏻

I do believe that sites like this are going to be the future. As fakebooks claws start to remove original content from the platform, in close partnership with Google, Twitter & YouTube, their reputation will start to demise.
Combine this with new platforms that actually redistribute the power of the platform back to its users, and rewards them for participating, and you've got yourself a evolution. ;)
Just look at initiatives like d-tube and the upcoming twitter rival (forgot it's name) that has its open beta somewhere this month, and it's clearly just a matter of time.
I greatly support people trying to get more users to the platform, this indeed speeds up the process quite a bit, but the technology is just like crypto, so distorting to the big players, that it's surely going to happen eventually.
It's great to see all this evolving into something undreamed of just a couple of years ago. :D
