TINY (5-minute Freewrite)

"Tiny, get up here," the Ringmaster shouted. His top hat askew, and his jacket dusted with big top sawdust.

It was a kind of perverse joke, Tiny knew. The name was given to him while he still attended grammar school in northern Iowa. Corn fed and farm raised, Houston DeLeon was taller, broader, and rounder than most children his age.

He was not, however, deeper. Tiny, as he came to be known by schoolmates and relatives alike, was dim witted and mute. But he knew how to follow orders. No matter how grim. And he knew how to follow orders through to their end.

"Show this gentleman what we do with ticket scalpers, Tiny. Then get back to the train and help load the elephants. We've got to be in Wichita by morning." The Ringmaster walked away from the forming scene and toward the small caboose decorated to his liking.
