5-minute Freewrite: Prompt- Mice

Tom, Dick and Harry are three best friends. They do almost anything together. Except, well, dating the same girl.

But oh, how life is filled with crazy coincidences!

Once, they met with a girl on a fishing trip down the river. She was tall and lovely, gentle and kind, too. They were in love.

All three of them, that is.

So with the attempt to win the fair maiden, they got into a fight and went on their separate ways. They'd try to sabotage each other's efforts, but each time they'd end up screwing up their own.

The thing is, they've never actually spoken to the girl before, much less approach her. The few times they bumped into each other, it was all close encounters of unspoken words.

The day came after much argument amongst themselves that they have decided to approach the pretty girl with the intention to ask her to choose who she would like to go out with.

It wasn't until a few weekends later before they could finally see the girl of their dreams appearing at the same fishing spot again.

This time, without hesitation they walked excitedly toward her while clearing their throats, imagining how impressed she might be with their charms until they heard her speak for the first time.

Or, should I say, him.

Before they could make a move, they turned to each other in utter shock and silence, holding their jaws as they turned their backs running with their tails in between their legs.

You could almost hear the beginning of the children's song that sing;

Three blind mice, three blind mice, see how they run, see how they run...
