The wind was bitingly cold. He pulled the collar up on his coat, but it didn't really help. He should have picked up the scarf, after all.

Not that he would admit that to his mother.

"It's cold outside," she said. "Take your hat, gloves and scarf, or you'll catch your death..."

Yeah, I'm not going to be seen dead in that scarf you knitted from scraps of wool, left over from making Dad the most garish red Christmas jumper I have ever seen. Catch my death? I'd catch my death, alright, if Kicker and his gang of thugs caught me wearing that thing out and about.

He shuddered. Not from cold, this time, but from the memory of the last time Kicker and his band of merry men had picked on him.

His mother had been going through her 'crochet phase'. Everything in the house had been covered in the stuff: the toilet rolls had little hats; the arms of the sofa had little bits of crocheted stuff on them to protect them from dirt; even the dog...

Photo is mine, I took it a few weeks ago when we had some snow. I wrote the story using http://www.themostdangerouswritingapp.com/ in 5 minutes. Added line breaks and italics.

Ohhhhhh save the world from Mom's that knit and crochet! :D I think my son would so agree with you there when he was young and I was going through my knitting phase :D

A fellow sufferer! He has my sympathy! :)

I used to have a red scarf I loved - but luckily - no gang of thugs around to give me a hard time :)

When I was little my Mom taught me how to crochet, that was long before I would have been beaten up and ridiculed for such a thing lol. But my Dad was working three jobs keeping food on the table, and I enjoyed helping my Mother around the house when he was not there to teach me how to do outside things. Sometimes I wish that I still remembered how to do it, I guess I could make a not-so-manly cover for my remote control lol. 😜

Well, I needle-felt little creatures out of wool, so I can't pass judgement on what is "manly" or not! ;) I have a friend who crochets and she makes some amazing stuff.

I love seeing crochet to this day because it reminds me of my Mother, so to me that sounds like a good kind of friend to have. 👍
