"Tip your hat, Ol' Johnny," young Margaret told the blind man, "Mrs. Penwington is walking by."
Johnny tipped his cap. "Evening, Irma."
"Hello Johnny," Irma smiled at him. It was clear as a bell in her voice. "I've got a dozen fresh eggs from my best layers this morning, and I'd like to have breakfast with you if i might."
"Of course, Irma." Johnny smiled down at young Margaret as she eagerly tugged his sleeve. Everybody knew Irma Penwington made the best omelettes in Illinois, and maybe in the whole United States. Maybe even the whole world.
After Margaret washed an old bread bowl that hadn't been used since his wife passed, and as Irma cracked the eggs two at a time into it, Johnny whistled an old folksy song.
"I haven't heard 'She got bundles' in what feels like an eternity, Johnny." said Irma.
"Just passing time with joy." smiled Johnny "Just passing time with joy."
