Esio Trot ... the weird as heck story from weird as heck Roald Dahl tells the tale of a man who lies to a woman in order to convince her to love him because of his pseudoscientific hokum involving tortoise growth.

It should not be used as a model for how to be a good friend, neighbor, or lover, and yet it purports to be a children's book. Now, I love Roald Dahl and all his creepy weirdness, but for the love of all that is good and weird in the world, he should not be considered a children's book author. He is an erotica author and all his weird as heck books should be marked "for ages 18+ only"

You know how the snozzberries taste like snozzberries? That's a line in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Classic Roald Dahl "children's" book. Well, he reveals in other books that snozzberry is the flavor of ... what comes out... during...

Listen, I don't want to be graphic. Or even suggestive. The point is, it's not a candy flavor.

And let's not forget his problematic imagery of Oompa Loompas and this is not just me applying modern sensibilities to a different age. His publishers knew he wasn't going to get a pass from his audience for the way he represented them in his first draft. Thank goodness for editors.

And also? The witches are downright disturbing.

I really like Roald Dahl's short stories for adults, by the way. They just are clearly for adults.
