Dr. Michael J. Ferguson was excited as he had never been before. He had finally surpassed the known limits of the infamous Cave of the Growing Melody. The name was a rough translation of the name given by the natives. They had warned Michael about the dangers of the cave but, of course, he heed not.

He reached a circular area with a 2-meter-high stalagmite right in the center of the area. It somehow projected a dim light that made the walls change from blue to green to orange to purple. He was fascinated at the phenomenon. He looked at the stalagmite again but it seemed taller. Probably one or one and a half meters taller. He paid no attention to it and continued beholding the light show. Suddenly a melody started to come from the stalagmite. He looked at it again, but now the stalagmite was 5 meters high.

The PhD's heart was beating like never before when he noticed the melody was getting louder. It was like a children's choir -- a church choir, Michael concluded. The thought didn't calm him down. He heard a strong noise and noticed the way he came in was totally enclosed.

The melody got louder and louder. He looked at the stalagmite which turned 10 meters high. The colors flashed and changed faster, the melody grew louder, 15 meters high, more colors, 20 meters, children's voices, his heart beating, his heart beating, some singing, and then, no noise at all.
