Day 100 #Freewrite.jpg

Day 100 - Can You Believe It?

100 days of a daily prompt - I barely can believe it!!

First off, I want to thank all 175 of you who have participated in this - what shall we call it? Some call it pure fun, others call it madness and often I see us called the freewriting zoo. All spoken with love, of course!

For those of you who are newer to the freewrite - let's take a short walk down the memory lane. Soon after I started here on Steemit, I thought about posting a daily prompt. I always enjoyed this kind of writing exercise and some great stories had their beginning in the free flow of a freewrite. But it seemed so much work!

Then, I came across a post by @improv and it was the freest freewrite I had seen in a while. And I saw a few more on his profile. That was great!! Here was someone who obviously really liked this way of having fun. So, I asked him if he wanted to start a daily prompt initiative with me. A few messages back and forth and the first prompt hit Steemit.

That was the beginning of something great!! Nothing we could have imagined even in our wildest dreams!!

You all took to freewriting like ducks to water!!

The freewrites let a lot of us to share quite a bit about ourselves. The comments on each other's work started to be more - and longer and longer. We shared more of ourselves and before we knew it, we were considering our fellow freewriters our friends.

A community was born which is getting stronger and stronger every day. Keep watching this page. Great things are brewing to be revealed in the near future!

Milestones in this Freewriting Story.

One day, we all woke up to a post by @omra-sky and found that many of us had moved together into a house called the old Steemian's Home. If you haven't read it, you simply must! Click here

But don't stop there!! This post was just the beginning! Several of the freewriters began to spin all kinds of tales of the adventures of the Old Steem Home's residents. Here is @brisby's take on the steem home saga.

@snook contributed quite a few of the adventures and has become the architect of the home. Check out her many videos where she is showing off what she created. And you don't want to miss her latest creation where the story is told from a different viewpoint altogether.

Many of us started to read our stories and post them to DTube. Check them out and maybe add your own.

That is pretty impressive, right? But wait! Here comes @byn and decides to uplevel this freewriting adventure even more. She went to an open mic night and did a live "freewrite" in the spoken form!! That takes a lot of guts and she was fantastic!! Read her blog post about her adventure here

But that is not all!! Quite a few of you started to write ongoing stories, using each prompt to bring the story a little further along. That is difficult! Very difficult. @deaconlee @fireawaymarmot @svashta @kcoyote @mr-neil and more have challenged themselves to do this. Great work, you all!!

100 Day Special

Since this is Day 100 of the daily prompts, I thought we make it special!

We have prizes!! Yay!!

10 SBD and the SBD payout of this post will be shared among those who are taking today's challenge!

@brisby and @deaconlee have ea contributed 5 SBD.
If you want the pot to grow, you can upvote this post and/or send SBD to my wallet with a note:
Day 100 prize

The Challenge

Today, I am asking you to find a partner and do a freewrite together. Yes, you heard me right! Together!

There are three ways to do this. They require a shared document. Goggle doc is a free option. @snook wrote an excellent post explaining how to share a document if you have never done this. Here is her post

Option 1 (instructions written by @brisby)

How to Play:

  1. Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc. here is how
  2. Decide who will begin writing.
  3. Prepare a timer for each writer. Alternate writing for 1 minute each.
  4. Use the word “Go” to let the other know that it was their turn.
  5. Use the prompt provided.
  6. Put the word/phrase at the top of the page.
  7. The first freewriter sets a timer for 1 minute and begins writing.
  8. When the minute is up, type the word “GO” to let the next writer know to begin.
  9. Carry on, alternating turns, until 10 minutes have passed (each has written for 5 minutes).
  10. Combine the sentences (cleaning up the formatting and removing the “Go’s” if you wish).
  11. Place the “cleaned up” version of the story below the exercise.
  12. Submit the link and then enjoy reading that day’s freewrites!

Option 2

  1. Pick a partner and open up a shared Google doc. here is how
  2. Decide who will begin writing.
  3. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
  4. First freewriter writes one sentence.
  5. Then, the other freewriter writes one sentence.
  6. Switch back and forth until the 10 minutes are over.

Option 3 - this option is especially good if you can't find a time which suits both writers

  1. Each freewriter writes a 5 minute freewite.
  2. Exchange the freewites.
  3. Write 5 more minutes on the partners freewrite and finish the story.

You can both publish the freewrites and if you want, add a bit on how that kind of writing felt to you. Was it fun? Difficult? Want to do it again?

How to find a partner

Leave a reply to this post: Partner wanted. If you want to partner up with that person, leave a reply and say so.

freewriter wanted.png

  • @brisby and @snook volunteered to be beta testers for this newest version of the freewrite adventure. They brought great dedication to this task and when you read their story, you can feel how much fun they had!!
    Here is their shared freewrite.

Take the challenge and leave a link to your posts in the comment section and you are eligible for a share of the price. You have until Friday, February 2, 6PM Pacific Time to post the URL to your post.

Only partner freewrites are eligible.

Prices will be distributed after the payout for this post.

Imgur

Prompt: It was Saturday morning...

Use this phrase It was Saturday morning as the beginning of the freewrite

  • Set your timer for 5 minutes
  • Start writing
  • Use the hashtag #freewrite
  • Publish your piece (include a link to this post if you wish)

Copy and paste your URL into the comment section of the prompt post.

  • Or, if you don't want to publish your freewrite, just copy and paste as a comment under the prompt post.

If you don't know what a freewrite is, here is a link to the introduction post.

Here is @snooks excellent tutorial on how to join our freewrite adventure

And @improv's input:

Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.

Of course, you can do a freewrite on your own and you will still get an upvote from me.
But this is a good time to make a friend!

Watch tomorrow's prompt for another new feature of this freewriting community.

Here are the names of everyone who has done at least one freewrite. Maybe you see a friend who hasn't written with us for a while and you can ask them to partner with you. Or ask your mom, your daughter or son, your neighbor - heck, a stranger in a coffee shop. Partner freewriting is double the fun!

Here's the 2nd story that @improv and I wrote. This is so much fun and I want to do it again! Thank you @improv and thank you @mariannewest for starting this exercise!!

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@brisby/saturday-w-improv-freewrite-100th-day

Here's one that @littlescribe and @svashta partnered up on:

Wow, you two did great together. It was almost like you'd both done it a dozen times. The part where you finished each others sentences was epic.

Words, even!

Lol loved that part too.

@improv, make sure you come check out my Guess What I Am Contest. Here's the next one. Winner gets the loot.

Checked it out, and it looks like some folks have figured it out! An excellent bit of fun!

You guys are a hoot. This is pretty good!

Day 100! Good job everyone! I love reading and commenting on your stories, that's my participation here. And cheering you lot on!

059 - OwUPlwk.gif

We love that you are doing that!!! You can be our official cheerleader 😀

It’s more fun writing with an audience. Thanks for being here.

Awwwww! Thanks for the encouragement! Which anime is the clip from?

This is from Shirobako. Posting this has made me want to watch it again. I actually wrote about it on my Steemit blog about 2-3 weeks ago. It's really good.

Hi Freewriters :)

I participated and partnered up with @srivera. Our story is on her blog https://steemit.com/freewrite/@srivera/blog-15-10-minute-freewrite

Visiting your stories now :)

You can publish it as well on your own blog....

It was great fun! We did the 10 minute timer, alternate sentences (option 2). :)

I love writing like this :)

Today I'm flying along on the back of a griffin to deliver the prompt to all of our fantastic Freewriters!
Day 101 - 5 Minute Freewrite Prompt : hardboiled minds

Your contests are doing really well. They are so much fun. I love what @svashta is doing with your daily freewrites. Kind of a fun twist.

You should come check out my Guess What I Am post. I write from the perspective of an inanimate object. Winner gets the loot! Here's the next one

Thank you for letting me know!! going to check it out for sure. Can I share it with the freewriters? And @moneyinfant puts posts with challenges and contests together. You might want to drop a link for them.

@littlescribe No need to drop the link - I'm on it!

What do you mean drop a link? Sounds like a good idea, but not sure how to go about it!

A link to your contest post. No worries, I'm on top of it. Although it is a bit different because your contest is very time sensitive and the contest post changes so quickly :) Fun idea though!

I was afraid to double post like that.

Has Cheetah visited you?

I think it is okay if you do it at about the same time. Better if each writes a little bit text which is different. But if cheetah bot comes, you just tell him what it is - a joint writing thing and that is usually enough. Especially, If you don't do it all the time.

Partner wanted plz!

Grats on the 100 days!!! @byn your live freewrite was awesome!!

Thank you! I enjoyed it so much, I may have to do it again :)

That was great indeed! I think that deserves a place in a 'freewrite hall of fame' or something :D

Thank you :)

yaaaaaaay!!! Congratulations!!! You, and yes, all of us, did it!! but you put in so much time and energy!! I don't know how you did it and still do!! hugs

Hugs right back to you!!

happy 100 everyone! I'm sorry I wasn't here to participate. Jeff and I went off to the Strip District in Pittsburgh! We had a wonderful time and it looks like I have a lot of reading to do. I'm so sad that I didn't take part in this, hopefully I will be up to make the second one!!

You have until Friday :) and there are at least 3 looking for writing buddies :)

Next Friday?? Awesome! I will look to see who needs a buddy!

Well, this Friday :) dang English language. The whole next.... thing took me forever to wrap my head around and I still don't like it lol. Friday 2/2 at 6 PM Pacific time 😎

Awesome! thank you, I will squeeze some time out and I have already requested a buddy. I am off to go and clean the salon as my usual Sunday Duty and do some running around to pick up fun things like water. I will be there at 3 p.m. if the meeting is still on Eastern Standard Time?

Not in a good place to do a collaboration with a friend but I managed to pen this piece either way. It's crazy where pens and keyboards lead us with just a simple prompt!

I enjoyed writing this :)

Oh and I fully understand the rules of the contest so my piece is disqualified but still I wanted to pen this :)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Hi @mariannewest what a great way to celebrate 100 fantastic freewrites😍 I have partnered up with @jrhughes and we will both drop the links to our blog publications of the freewrite collaboration in this comment thread. Thanks

Here is my collaborative freewrite: https://steemit.com/fiction/@raj808/day-100-freewrite-devil-dog.
Looking forward to the next 100 😃

Congratulations on the big 100, I joined around the Christmas period. I've never written anything publicly before, but it is the support of everyone that has given me the confidence to provide you with stories that I hoped you enjoyed.

I've only just seen the prompt, a bit later than normal. Unfortunately it's my bedtime. I did have a strange idea though.....

I am so glad that you joined!! And it is hard to believe that you haven't written fiction before!!

I will not be entering this contest myself, but I will try to read all of the entries. Good luck to everyone, I hope you all have a lot of fun and get to know each other even better. 👍 👏 🙂

Well I won't be joining this time as I want to read more the stories around here. I had so much interacting with everyone. I just want to return the favor this time.

We love readers!!

Yay! Congrats, Marianne and to #freewrite !!!

All right, Frank agreed to write with me. We sat side by side, and took turns. Here is our story:

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@binkyprod/the-great-gathering-10-min-coupled-freewrite-challenge-for-100th-milestone-prompt-it-was-saturday-morning

That is so cool!!

Thanks. We had a lot of fun writing it. Talk about activities for couples lol "what you and your partner can do that's new and interesting" ;)

Oh wow! This collaborative freewrite is so innovative! What a way to celebrate the centennial edition! I'm glad I was able to stumble upon you guys in time for this milestone. With my crazy schedule, I, unfortunately, might not able to participate with a partner. But, know that you have my support and I'll try to comment on as many entries as I can. Congratulations to every one who made this 100th edition possible!

Yes, it was a good time to find us here!! With option 3, it is easy to accommodate different schedules. And you have until Friday!

Friday?? Oh wow! Then I'm definitely looking to get in on this!

Congratulations on 100 days of free writing.

thank you!!

I wrote a continuation to my ongoing story:
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@svashta/wild-west-part-19-5-minute-freewrite-challenge

And would also love to have a partner to write a new piece with.
Since I'm goingto bed now, is there anyone who would be available in about 10h from now? :P

Edit: Here are our collab pieces with @iikanji:
Part 1 by @iikanji: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@iikanji/saturday-day-100-freewrite-with-svashta
Part 2 by @svashta: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@svashta/writing-collaboration-5-minute-freewrite-100-day-special-collab-with-iikanji

Edit Edit: I collaborated with @mylittleblurbs also:
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@svashta/wewrite-freewrite-with-mylittleblurbs-and-svashta

Would love to collaborate with you. Although I've to tell you upfront, I've just started writing so I'm not as good as you. But I will try my best. :)

Just tell me which "option" suits you best and I'm down for business :P

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Thank you! Let's go for option 3. :)

Sure thing!
You want to publish your piece, give me the link to it, and I continue and publish the "part 2"? :P

While I was sleeping, you found a partner :) Still, you name is up on the new post. Do you want me to edit it or are you up for another go if someone needs a partner?

I am very much up for another go! ;D

If you're still up for it, I'd love to partner up with you. I haven't done one yet. Although, I'm off to bed soon. It's 11pm here. So I'll check back tomorrow and see what the status is on here with people and partners and such.

Of course I'm up for it ^^ Hit me up on Discord or Steemitchat (I'm @svashta everywhere :P) and we can discuss it further :D

Cool...although, I work until 5pm PST. I'll have to hit you on chat after work. I can't get in at work. Are we in similar time zones?

We're in completely opposite timezones haha :D But I believe we'll manage :D Do tell me when you get home :D

I'm home, but I am thinking we might need to do option #3 because I have to take off here in a minute for a couple hours. One of those weeks. Would you be interested in doing a chat...you write for a few minutes, then I take over? If that doesn't work, we can try it for next time.

Wow! this is really exciting!

Sorry all, I'm playing catch up. I need a partner or I can write with my alter ego... I'll need the partner to set up the googledoc.

@svashta and @sharoonyasir are looking for partners. One is in Europe, the other in Pakistan. Don't know what your timezone is. But you all have until Friday :)

@svashta is looking for you :)

thanks!

Congratulations for the 100 days goal!!!
It's a pity I'm in a place with a rickety Internet connection until Monday :(

But...I wrote the second part of my Old Steemians story, for the prompt "round is a shape":
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@marcoriccardi/round-is-a-shape-il-cerchio-e-una-forma-5-minute-freewrite-day-98-eng-ita
It isn't collaborative, but @snook provided the screenshots of her Sims 4 game, so it's a little bit like we did it together ;)

You have until Friday. I am sure you and @f3nix and maybe @wido will come up with something delicious!! 👍

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Here is my entry (with @abyni we each did five minutes then switched. If we can only have one entry ...because now that we've done it, I'm confused :/ Then one of us can withdraw our comment/entry):

Thumb-100-freewrite-The-Day-of-Darkness.png

The Day of the Darkness

two entries!! Actually, I am going to blow it open tomorrow and you can do as many as you want - well, I am going to think of a limit lol

@snook and I wrote this post!!!

Love and Light to all Freewrites!

Yey! This is exciting. Happy 100th to you @mariannewest and to all of us. CONGRATULATIONS!
I couldn't let this pass so I am submitting our entry. I did it with my sister @juwel. It is so much fun to do this. Really!
You can find our entry HERE

Thank you!!!

Such a wonderful exercise this was for you all... I'm so sorry I was not here to be able to take part in a partner write. I love you all! Next time I hope I've been reading through the stories and they are just phenomenal! Congratulations to all for such excellent partnerships!

Happy 100 @mariannewest and the #freewrite Community!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Congratulations on day 100! I love how everyone keeps "leveling up"! Here's to more fun with our the zoo while we head for 200!!

Partner wanted! 😁

Let's. You'll make the Google doc? I can start in 20 minutes!

Sure! Starting now!

Can I choose a partner in person? Like if my husband agrees to freewrite with me, so we sit down together and each take turns typing for one minute until the 10 minutes are up. Can that work too?

Yes!! That would be so cool!!1

Awesome. Now I just need to convince him to write with me haha

Last but not least..here's my story in collaboration with the exuberant and squirredelic @marcoriccardi !

I do have a proposal for anyone. I have just written a story. However, because of time difference, I want to hand it over for someone to make a part 2. I will need to go bed, so if I don't hear soon, you'll have to wait until my morning time. You cannot have the story until you agree.

I can either share it on Google Docs or post the story on discord.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

would you entrust me with it? I would like to finish it please

Just in time. Shall I post the story on Discord?

yes discord

We made a long way together and yet I feel it's just the beginning of an exciting adventure with all of you, creatures of the freewriters zoo! Tip! Tap! Fuzzah!

Hundredth day celebration! This idea is minblowing. Any body want to be partner with me?

I'll partner up with you. But our time zones are probably different. If you want I can just write for 2 minutes and you can do the other half. I'm littlescribe on steemit.chat. Shall we meet up there?

What a milestone indeed! XD
Shout out to all freewriters there! Keep up the good work! XD

Hi guys!

Minnow here. It's my second time in #freewrite - I did my first one yesterday and I'm lucky I got to do this collab writing today, too.

Hip hip HOORAY! What a stellar community. Freewriting daily prompts have changed my imagination and reawakened joy and excitement in my writing practice. I LOVE what this has brought to my world. Including the opportunity to partner with @saffisara on a partner freewrite for day 100! 🎉🎉🎉

Wow! There are so many spin off from freewrite, awesome! Will check them out one by one... I chicken out a bit and didn't take the partner challenge. But I did my Team Malaysia historical moment as the entry for this freewrite historical moment. Here's my entry!
Congrats again! ❤️💖💗💕💪🐳😘

This is my first time believe it or not finding out about this freewrite, it souds great as I love writing stories for children and all my stories are based around a fictional child, I do not know where to find a partner as I am probably to old to work with anyone. This seems very nice and have a lot of fun and good luck.

I don't think age matters in our group :)
Hi and welcome. Hi just saw @steemfluencer . post in the 101-day prompt that he might be interested. If can't connect via discord or steemchat, you can go with option 3 and leave your pieces for each other as a comment and then post the finished piece...

I'd love to give this a go but unfortunately, I am currently in China and can't access google docs. Can I still try the solo free writing and if so where do I find them? also Is there a discord group?

You find a new prompt every day posted by me. Just check my profile. It will be there :)

Here's one of the two we-writes that @wonderwop and I did together! Thank you Marianne, and thank you Wonderwop!

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@brisby/saturday-s-visitor-we-write-with-wonderwop

Here is the submission for myself and @not-a-bird! We used option 1 and ended up writing about coffee and werewolves, oh my! :-)

It was Saturday morning...

hahaha - isn't it fun what can happen lol

It is! This was my first time writing in this way and it was quite the challenge! I look forward to collaborating again!

It is Saturday morning and no more entries are accepted
