Please welcome our newest freewriter @lindahas

Prompt: stranded on the sofa like whales with a plankton's indigestion

prompt courtesy of @f3nix - have fun with this one!!!

Set your timer for 5 minutes
Start writing
Use the hashtag #freewrite
Publish your piece (include a link to this post if you wish)

Copy and paste your URL into the comment section of the prompt post.

  • Or, if you don't want to publish your freewrite as a post, just copy and paste as a comment under the prompt post*.

If you don't know what a freewrite is, here is a link to the introduction post.

Here is @snooks excellent tutorial on how to join our freewrite adventure

And @improv's input:

Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.

Please read, comment and vote (if you can)on each others freewrites as much as you can. Especially if you are new to the platform, you will be surprised how many friendships are formed by reading and commenting on each other's work!

Delegation

I have to thank two people for a wonderful delegation I got which will help a lot to give you all a vote which has at least a little bite.
First, the person who is the generous delegator.

Drummroll please for @stellabelle!!

If you don't know who she is, I highly recommend you check out her profile. She is one of the early Steemians and has lots of interesting projects to support us smaller fish.

The second person is our freewrite friend @fitinfun. She told @stellabelle about our freewrites and how awesome everyone is.

Thank you!!!!!

And in the spirit of today's prompt, she is one of the very good whales and let's hope us plankton will never give her indigestion.

Now on to some info. Make sure to check the contest sections if you usually skip over this part. New contests you can enter.

Help

I am going to post this request for help for a while. Even though many of you responded, eventually, I would love to see several freewrite encouragers signed up for each day. Our numbers are growing - which is wonderful!!! But reading 30+ posts takes a bit of time and I don't want anyone to get burned out.

Thank you so much @marcoriccardi @miniature-tiger @deirdyweirdy @byn @brisby @f3nix for taking on a day and @improv @dmcamera @snook @janine-ariane for being available once in a while.

What is that help, you ask. Every day, once the new prompt is out, the freewrite encouragers mentioned above visit all freewriters who left a link to their post in the comments of the previous day's prompt. They read the freewrite, leave a comment and drop the new prompt.

I will still give all of you a vote - mostly on the comment with your link and read as many freewrites as I can. If you want to help, you too can take a day or share. We often now have 30+ participants per day and there is plenty of fun reading for all to be had. If you can't commit to a day, please read as many of your fellow freewriters work as you can. Make sure to leave a comment!

To sign up on the google spreadsheet, click here

I suggest that all of you who are taking on the prompt delivery join discord. That way, you can private message each other. Especially the occasional people can speak up and say which day, or the 10 from the top... they want to read.

The first post by the Isle of Write - the discord which took us all in with open arms and hearts. Read it here and give it some love, please

Contests

Thanks to @bhop42moro here are two new contests for you all to consider:

writing impact challenge by @rensoul17 - it has a price

A valentines challenge from SteemPulp

If you come across any other contests the freewriters might want to enter, please let me know!

Writing help

  • A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Just remember that is is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link

  • Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.

  • A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link

  • Our fellow freewriter @arbitrarykitten has a business here on Steemit. Several editors are offering to edit and format your post for a small fee. Check out their intro post

  • Our discord channel Isle of Write has workshop rooms for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry where some of the experienced writers might be able to give some tips. Join with this link https://discord.gg/zfXNRnK

  • If you are ready to get serious about improving your understanding of the English language check out @majes.tytyty blog. He has lots of useful information to understand words and their roots better. If you have questions or need help, leave a comment on his blog.

  • Check out @ghasemkiani if English is not your first language. He explains many idioms. Often to use those correctly is the biggest struggle when using a foreign language. He uses #idioms-tutorial

  • If you know of other helpful tools or people, please share with us!

Voting

Remember to check your voting power. Do not vote for a while if you are under 90!
https://www.steemnow.com/ or use https://steemworld.org/

Here is an excellent article explaining how to maximize your vote. It helps you to grow to vote wisely!!

And here is a counter opinion on voting by our freewriter @improv

This post is talking about using your vote for maximum curation. Thank you, Asher @abh12345 Read the post here

Money

There are several people who offer SBD for free on this platform! How great is that!!

Here are a few

Leave a comment on @jr11 post and you might win 10SBD click here
@fisheggs - follow this account and you get up votes at random times.
@sydesjokes - he rewards his followers with SBD for any kind of interaction with him- comment, vote, resteem.
@craigcryptoking- he does a giveaway a few times a week. All you have to do is to be the first, or fourth or eight commenter. And he added a few more.
@danielsaori - he does a comment contest. A new challenge every week.
@rexusmo - I think a few of you have started to leave links to your post. Every day, he has a cheering up post. You leave a link to a post you are proud off and you might get a reward. Keep trying!!

Loved the spin on the name of this one!

What is a whale's favourite drink? Gin plank-ton-ic.
An extra special joke for you, my extra special friends.

I'm flattered that you picked up one of my nutty expressions as a prompt @mariannewest! Here's the "turbine" entry, a story of friendship and my thoughts about this great project :-)

Thank you @stellabelle & @fitinfun for the delegation and helping us building this unique and creative community!

Made some time to have my entry! Hope you like it. :)

Here's my freewrite! This was a hard one!! :)

"Get off my keyboard you stupid cat!" as I shoved off our entitled calico. "Honey, can you watch the baby while I do the dishes", my wife yelled from down the hall" My patrience was being tested once again. Picking up the kids, cleaning the garage, making sure my on work space is tidy after my family messes it up. Don't they know I'm a whale! A whale on Steemit! A sheer thumbs up gives fanacial freedom to the minnows in this sea of substandard drivel thatI have to sift through. stuck on this couch trying to find caviar when Im having to eat stale minnows.

there you go lol. You got the spirit.

I totally forgot to leave my prompt (and hell, I forgot to POST this yesterday as well!!! I had it sitting, unposted, on my laptop this morning! The glitches I'm experiencing apparently messed me up!)

Anyway, here is mine: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@byn/a-feast-of-wishes-and-regret-5-minute-freewrite

Because I am late, I link the post for one of the previous prompts ;-)
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@wido/5-minute-freewrite-a-smiling-house

very clever...avoiding the big whale in the corridor :P

Some things are just set-up to be silly...can't help it. :-)

Written for: 5 minute freewrite

Oh, boy was this prompt difficult. I had to go past 5 minutes just to make it sound coherent. :D

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@isaganispeaks/5-minute-freewrite

I WAS SO CONFUSED!!! I thought the prompt today was actually "See Below" hahaha

I though the same thing. So much easier.

no problem lol! It is all good!!

Craziest prompt yet!

https://steemit.com/freewrite/@fitinfun/5-minute-freewrite-challenge-day-88-stranded-on-the-sofa

I'm so glad you got that delegation, Marianne. You deserve with all your hard work for minnows. Thank you @stellabelle! We all really appreciate your help.

hahaha - you haven't seen anything yet lol . Have to push these writers a bit. they are all getting so good!!

What a prompt! I'm back after two days of staying at my son's while my car was in the shop. A broken heater made it impossible to drive my own car. I'm hoping you enjoy this little offering. It was a whale of a time! <3

Wow, this one was so tough! Great prompt, though! I really had to stretch my brain for this one:

Stranded on the sofa...

Wow this is a hard one. 😩😩😩

you can do it!! You can even just write down the sentence and then write about that it is hard to write about a sentence like that!
:)

One of my tactics is to pretend I didn't read it properly. My one is called Stranded In Wales.

I accept the challenge. My brain is growing every time I do a freewrite. That’s a good thing. Thanks ❤️

You don't even have to write about it. You just hear the prompt and start writing. See what comes out!

"Or, if you don't want to publish your freewrite as a post, just copy and paste as a comment under the prompt post*." Where is this? I'm hyper new and want to try this. If you want to critique my first story post check it out. I genuinely looking for opinions and help.

What do you mean, "where is this?" You did it! You wrote a comment. Now the idea would be to write a comment (just like you did) but put the freewrite in here.

Perhaps you mean, "to what does the asterisk refer?" The answer is "nothing". I think it's a typo.

Your deduction would be correct sir. The asterisk through me off. I did and page search for another asterisk and for the word "post" and I didn't see anything. Thank you for the response!

No problemo!

so sorry about this!! The prompt posts are getting big and often, I am tired when I put them together. I think I was trying to format is as italic and must have had an extra space in the beginning of the sentence.

Wow, what a post. Resteemed for visibility!
