It's taken a long time, and a lot of the life lessons have been exceedingly difficult, but I have learned that it is not too late to be who I want to be. The choice is mine. I can change, or I can stay the same.
But looking back, it's easy to see that it has been the changes that have made my life one of growth, a life of learning and new experiences, one I can be proud of.
Many of the changes were not ones I would have chosen. At the time they seemed forced on me, when what I truly wanted was for everything to stay the same. Change seemed dangerous. It was easy to believe that if things stayed the same, I was safe.
Now I know that it was the things I saw that startled me, the people I met who had a different point of view, the things that happened that caused me to feel things I had never felt before; those are the things that have caused me to change into a person I an proud of.
And if I am not ever not proud of who I am, I hope I am brave enough to change, again.
