Day 802: 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: understand

in freewrite •  5 years ago  (edited)

For @mariannewest in @freewrite

Now, when the flow of hormones of youth isn't as strong, blinding and stupefying, what is left to rely on is understanding.

What is it that one tries to understand? Well, one tries to understand how things work: politics, business, art, relationship, history. Why are we who we are? How did it all come around? Where are we going? What will happen to me, to all of us? I think every person has its own recipe, it's our model of how things work, how are they connected.

In that sense, I love the contests run by the FreeWriteHouse. Those prompts put you in a situation you will never get yourself into because you know better. )))

Just kidding. Because another person's mind/soul is a black box until she (usually it is she) spills it on electronic paper.

Then, at first, you feel trapped. What nonsense! How can one write about this? How can anybody think this out?

But then you see it as some sort of a puzzle in which your mental process was forcefully encumbered and you are striving to understand how to make sense of it, how to fit this unthinkable singularity into your world view?

Then slowly, you find that solution. It flashes in your mind like lightning and, having poured the light of understanding at that new corner of dark matter, you feel inspired to share it.

So thank you for that and have a Great New Year, Everybody!

You’re so right! We spend our latter years trying to make sense of what we’ve seen, we can’t and then we die.

Thank you! Just posted my entry )

If you watch from starting from 2:05 you can hear the story of the Irish swimmer Michelle Smith. Her English is absolutely 100% understandable. I could hardly hear any accent. )))

But of course! Us Dubs are renowned for our perfect accentless English.

Very well and insightful freewrite @mgaft1, yes understanding the world around us, how it works and where we fit in it is something we all want to find out, and as we grow older also find some of them and piece them together, usually too late to make any drastic changes to our lives, or so we might tell ourselves until we actually try it and find that we can even if it takes a bit of work, I wish you an Awesome New Year and keep up your great work, it's awesome.
