Prompt for today here!

I sat upon the blackened earth. I don't know how long have I been here motionless.

No one else is alive.

The dragonbreath, nothing could have prepared us for it. It was not mere fire, it was death walking the land. And it was beautiful.

How different the reality from the fairy tales of old, of the shining knight facing the monstrous serpent, of his shield of valor against that minor flame.

The real wyrm was nothing like that. We had no chance, it was swift, it was strong, it was graceful, intelligent. Higher. And it breathed such brilliant, mesmerizing crimson. Fire so intense and otherworldly it was merely divine. We were smote.

This was no adventure. We were not daring warriors braving the monster's lair for glory and riches. We were nothing, we were foolish mites trying to climb atop a unicorn. We were little thieves, bandits, knaves. The dragonbreath was our purification.
