There’s been a lot of talk around town about when the captains of the lobster boats will be able to set their traps in the sea. The season started April 29th but due to the strong wind the “Setting Day” will be delayed.
Here it is May 2 ... maybe the traps can be set out tomorrow.
I was down to the Montague harbor this morning and saw the boats still lined up, with the traps and buoys on the wharf ready to load.
You may wonder why the wind would be a problem but with the lobster traps loaded on the boats along with the blocks of cement, used to weigh down each trap, there is a danger of tipping over with the heavy load.
Every day not going out means the fishermen will not get their quota of lobster needed to pay the crew, gas and other expenses.
There is a quota on the amount of lobster allowed to be caught and on the number of traps allowed by each boat captain.
PEI has the finest lobster in the world and the locals are eagerly waiting for a fresh catch to savour with garlic and melted butter.

@redheadpei I feel their pain of not being able to set their traps when you work with Mother Nature, she is always in control. Our season started May 1 for trout and we are yet to find bait to fish with.

Mother Nature hasn’t brought PEI much of a spring but nicer days coming and the fishermen will be happy. The lobster fishermen are getting impatient to get their traps set out. I think tomorrow will be okay.

My Dad used to catch trout in the brooks with earthworms. A really tasty fish. I don’t know if your trout is the same kind of fish as here.

Mornin’ Cowboy @janton. Yes they finally were able to set their traps and the lobster season is in full swing.
Because the lobster fishing at this end of the Island was delayed four days the season will be extended four day into first few days of July.
