Note: This is a collaborative freewrite that was written by myself and @not-a-bird for the Day 100 Freewrite! It was a fun and interesting experience, so I hope I'll have the opportunity to participate again in the future. :-)
Thanks go out to @mariannewest for providing the community with 100 days of awesome prompts!
It was Saturday morning and, like most Saturdays, the sun seemed to rise far too early. But, better to get up and take care of things before they had a chance to get out of hand.
Deidre threw back the covers and grumbled as she dragged her weary body out of bed and began stumbling toward kitchen. Coffee. Definitely needed coffee before dealing with the werewolf.
Alleged werewolf, she reminded herself. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just that laws being what they are, certain communities required such information be disclosed before a new tennant moves in, damned HSAs, anyway.
If there was anything that Deidre disliked more than the early Saturday sun, it was the tangled mess of hastily passed laws governing the werewolves. She understood the need for order in the world, but the laws were passed with little thought regarding their long-term repercussions and, more often than not, did little more than create confusion and stress for all parties involved.
Why couldn't it be a dog? Dogs dig up flower beds. Why did they have to immediately jump to the supernatural?
The smell of coffee finally began to fill the room and she let out a tired sigh. One of these days, she really would put in for that transfer to Human Resources. As soon as she learned how to tolerate people, anyway.
She pulled her favorite mug out of the cupboard and poured herself a cup before she remembered, Milk, I'm out of milk... so she reached for the sugar dish on the counter. A few cubes should make it bearable. But when she lifted the lid, a tiny burst of giggling light shot out of the sugar dish. She peered into the empty container and sighed again. Cursing pixies under her breath, she decided that maybe she would get coffee on the way there.
She grumbled as she trudged back into the bedroom and threw on the first clean outfit she could find. At least she wasn't meeting with anyone important this morning. She was fairly certain her only business suit was buried in the pile of dirty laundry in the corner.
Suddenly, her phone blipped with an incoming text message. Then a second blip. The first message was just one word: Body. The second was an address. Looks like the werewolves in the flower garden would get a free pass today.
