Madrid - a place I’ll never forget

Through my student years, I’ve traveled every summer. Traveling was my passion and I just couldn’t wait for summer to come. With a friend or two, I’ve packed my backpack and we have traveled somewhere warm, mostly to South Europe. We usually didn’t have any big plans and that was the most exciting partt of the trip. I have quite a few memorable places that I’ll never forget, but I’ll try to pick one and describe it.

I’ve been to Spain twice and loved it, and I would go back tomorrow if I had the opportunity. Spain is a large country with the most beautiful and breathtaking places. I haven’t seen the whole country, but if I had a chance I would go back to Madrid.

I visited Madrid with my good friend Maja at the beginning of August 2010! We stayed there for about 9 days, but I don’t recommend traveling through Central Spain during the summer season. The temperatures were really high, and its well knewn that the citizens of Madrid are usually going away and have their vacation because it’s too hot to stay in the city at this time of the year. We managed to get through the heat, and really enjoyed Madrid in all its beauty, and friendly people.

A person would think that 9 days is too much to stay in one place, but not Madrid. Each day was planned ahead with what we wanted to see, and we spent evenings outside, relaxing over a drink. The streets were full of local people, and tourists, and you had the feeling that this city never sleeps.

I’ll never forget the Almudena Cathedral, and Plaza Mayor, and Royal Palace of Madrid, and amazing parks, and gardens, and the famous Museum Prado for its best collection of artwork from de Goya, Rubens etc., and the Reina Sofia museum which is mainly dedicated to Spanish art, with masters like Picasso, Dali, and Miró. Madrid is also known for its good buses, and railway, and metro city transportation.

Lately, I’m thinking about going back to visit Madrid. Maybe I will turn this wish into action and make it happen. Madrid, here I come!
