5-minute freewrite Day 786 prompt: main street

in freewrite •  5 years ago

Last evening I watched a Christmas parade work its way along the main street of a little town in Idaho. The parade lasted 15 minutes, and that included all the entries going around the block twice! There was a fire truck covered with Christmas lights, a couple of ATVs with Christmas lights, a church float with the nativity scene, a library float featuring (mostly) red-and-green-clad elves, a flatbed truck with an inflatable snowman and a teddy bear, and a very old bus with people handing out free coffee. Candy was thrown by many of the parade entries, and Christmas cheer was spread around liberally. There was only a small bit of snow on the ground, no precipitation coming down, and it wasn't ridiculously cold. It is a local tradition, and obviously was enjoyed by the smattering of parade-goers.

Taking pictures in the dark with a cell phone doesn't result in great photos, but here is one that I took.

@scribblingramma I am so jealous that sounds like the parades like we use to have. I wish they would go back to the old way. Now we have a few local shops that make a float and the rest is political, police, and fire trucks. Our 4th of July parade use to end with Santa Claus, I guess because Florida is where he comes in July. lol

Santa in July! Now that's hilarious!

Your description was so vivid you actually didn't need the picture!

Aww, thank you so much for your words of encouragement!

You're welcome!
