Family matters of a different kind~ Day 116 Freewrite

The Backstory

It's been a long week and just a short while ago I realized it was only Monday! Yup, it's going to be one of those kinds of weeks I'm thinking.

While I'm fighting to stay awake for a few more hours, so I don't wake up tomorrow at 3 am, I have been reading some of the Day 115 freewrites. I was having a ball seeing everyone's take on the prompt mason jar.

Now the comments I left were from my heart but not my best work. You see my brain is very tired and with that and the tiny, teeny, space you have to write in, then, for me, go back and fix all the typo's, while the window slider always slides past what you were looking for to correct, was just plain getting on my nerves!

A new Freewriter named @scribblingramma has been cracking me up as she has been following the "Shimer" Zombie Saga that @deaconlee and I have been having a ball with.

Now Mz. @scribblingramma has made me chuckle on more than one occasion. The first time being, when she told me she really didn't know much about Zombie's and was I going to clarify a few things for her about zombies when I wrote my next story.

No, No! I know what you are all thinking now and the answer is still No!

I wasn't laughing at her but at myself, because I don't know a darn thing about Zombie's other than they always show them with their skin falling off. Which means I am the least qualified person to explain what a zombie really is but I didn't have the heart to tell her that.

Then every day she would go and find and read the newest zombie story and leave me the greatest comments. You could feel her laughter and the fun that she was having just by following the stories.

She made me proud of being part of something that brought joy to someone.

In turn, she has given me so much joy! but I don't think she realizes that.

Tonight I came across her Day 115 freewrite. I read it. I was sad at how it ended but that happens sometimes when it's not your story to tell but to just read and enjoy.

Her story, she wrote in five minutes, did hit a chord with me. I'm not sure why but it did.

So I did what any good Freewriter does and while leaving her a note asking for her permission to use a character from her last freewrite and me not having a DROP of patients in my soul, I wrote the story below.

I hope scribblingramma ( LOVE her username!!) will like the story I wrote. She might have to read up on zombies when she is done........just saying LOLLLLLLL

Family matters of a different kind

Jim, the lowly janitor, made his way home that night, mason jar in his hand.

Oh how he missed his sister Bea, it had been 7 long years and 4 months since he had seen her last.

Yup, a beer was going to be in order, on this night of nights, so off he went to The Canal to see if he could get Bub to fill his mason jar up with beer and a shot of fireball.

Sigh, that kind of night, but better to go home and drink then stay in the bar. You never knew who you would end up with in the morning. They usually looked a bit like zombies and you always thought to yourself, WHY? and then the proverbial,

"I will never drink again"

as you tried to shove the zombie-like figure of the women out the back door.

Bub was being a great guy tonight. Lucky for Jim, The Canal was hopping! This being the case, Jim didn't have to sit and listen to Bub drone on and on for 40 minutes. Making Bubs time go faster when working in an empty Bar.

Bub just filled up his jar, asking no questions. Jim was on his way home in no time.

Around the corner, Jim saw his house and a smile lite his face for the first time since leaving work.

Wait! his steps slowed as he noticed a few lights on INSIDE his house.

Now, this was his childhood home. Jim had gotten it when Mom and Dad had passed away. Never thinking to change the locks or the window that never closed quite right, but now.........

He was thinking it would have been a very good idea because all his childhood friends knew how to break into his house.

Opening the front door with the same house key he had carried for 30 years, Jim shouted "Hello!" and it echoed through the house.

Hmmmm now what.........

He took a deep breath and OMG what WAS that stench? as he ran to the nearest garbage can.

Unfortunately, this where his now zombie sister, Bea, smoke pouring out of the side of her face, also stood.

You can find @scribblingramma's first part of this story here: 5 minute freewrite

Thank you so much for letting me have a bit of fun on a night I am very tired!!

Now I'm off to bed and hope I have made you proud @scribblingramma!!

I also hope that everyone else will have a bit of a chuckle from this story too!!

Zombifying everyone's stories! (Could it be Zombie Week? Like a meta prompt?)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

well, the story goes like this, @deaconleee brought the zombie Bea home with @snook (me) and there is no more room in the house for a zombie or a way to make one in the Sims 4

so after reading @scribblingramma's post and she had left poor jim with just an empty jar and she also missed the zombie stories along with @zen-art who gave me a sad face yesterday when she just saw the Carl story.........

I thought I would give Bea a nice home and some family LOLL

so see it's really as simple as that :D

<Morning hugs my wonderful son>

Zombies everywhere!! Great job!!

Thank you!! <3

Oh wow!!! I had no idea Jim had a zombie sister! This is truly getting interesting! I can't wait to see what @pixiehunter is going to add next! Do keep me posted! Obviously, there is more to Jim the Janitor than I realized. LOL This is great!

I'm so happy you liked the story!!! :D and I can not wait to see what happens either :D I will let you know as soon as I know!!

Are you sure he didn't stay at the Canal for a few? sort of sight that a few fireballs can bring on.
Your next 5 minute write is to get him out of the sticky brown stuff.

HA! fireballs are that good!!! :D

and now I'm hoping @pixiehunter will let us know what happens LOLLL

Tuesday with the MSPWAVES radio show take up my whole day so hoping they can let us know how Jim and Bea get along LOLL

Lol Snook, your posts always bring a smile. You make me so curious about where the deep and seemingly unyielding interest in zombies comes from, hehe. Hope you and your brain get some rest tonight :)

It finally did!! Thank you :D which is very good because @simgirl and I do our MSP radio show this morning LOLLL

as to the Zombies.........here is the condensed version of why Jim now has a sister named Bea. :D

Lol, simple. It's like a day-time soap opera. Zombies in our Lives... :)

Zombies in our Lives

LOVE IT!! I might have to use that :D LOLLL

Or zombie cannons...those could be cool too lol

Was it, bring your mason jar night, at The Canal?

I wanna drink at your clubs....nice job Snook. Made me chuckle.

no, but that would have been great to add LOLLL

Thank You @wonderwop!!!

Ha ha. More Zombies!!! Very good story!

:D

Darn why did it end. I wonder if his sis will turn him into a zombie now. Good thing he had a beer in his hand, but he may want to down it. Maybe zombies won't like the taste of beer or fireball. :-)

I don't know!! why don't you pick it up and let me know what happens :D

I think that IS a fine plan!!! :D

Oh, a challenge in the forecast. You know I love mysteries. Game on. :-)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! I can not wait!!!

I ended one of my short stories with today's prompt. So they will now be between Chozzy, alien parents and the zombies. :-)

Wow, you get a lot of writing done in 5 minutes ;) Nice work. Keep it up.

Here's the new prompt: https://busy.org/@mariannewest/day-117-5-minute-freewrite-tuesday-prompt-church
