Overslept #Freewrite

She was awakened by a hard slap across her face followed by his yelling voice. Her still sleepy mind took a minute to digest what was happening and sure she was ignoring him, he punched her in the face.

The pain on her jaw bolted her from sleep to find her husband hovering over her angry like the flames burning whatever was in the small armchair next to the bed. Her fault was dozing off while a candle was burning.

Amsha matako, malaya ya mwanamke... He roared.

He was demanding she wakes up her whoreish ass. Accusing her of wanting to eradicate him and his entire seed like the witch she was. She wondered how he thought she could kill anyone... And that included even breathing monsters like him. The coward in her wanted to laugh at him but they had a fire to deal with.

He roughed her up out of the house handing her newborn child and again left her wondering how he could entertain the thought of her killing that innocent life through a fire. Her eldest son sat crying at the borehole outside the pitch dark single room plot. Her daughter was standing at their wide opened door, half -asleep, probably wishing her dad would play fireman faster so she could go back to bed.

Neighbors came armed with torches to dissolve the commotion coming from a house they were used to. Her battered self and her abusive husband were the neighborhood reality drama series. Tired of begging her to leave, they resolved what they could and when they could. That night, the house was up in flames, literally.

When the fire was managed, the angry husband came out for his first fresh breath and his wife's hide. She was breastfeeding her son, seated next to her eldest son who she had just managed to convince to stop crying. A few blows rained on her head and the only arm she could use to shield her face before the neighbors realized she was being beaten.

The insults his vile tongue let loose, made her wish she never had to look at her son eldest boy ever again. She knew this because he was holding her hands the entire time and he cringed at every one of them.

But seriously Baba Flani, you can't call your wife all those things when your children or your eldest son rather, sits next to her listening. It's wrong... Don't you have shame?

People threw those kinda questions around and made everything worse. He got angrier with what to him were 'the obvious accusations' they were making and she knew it.

What the hell is a wife who tries to kill you and your children with a fire? What kind of a woman dozes off and leaves a burning candle on an armchair without the intentions of killing her own? She wanted to burn us and her ugly ass to death!

She wanted to tell him she was tired. Remind him that she had recently given birth to his 3.8Kgs son. Tell him that the entire he was sleeping, she was busy making sure the crying bundle of joy doesn't wake up his absentee parenthood. She wanted to say that she couldn't have planned to burn all the shawls she had neatly folded on the armchair as she needed her newborn warm.

But.

She said none of that. She didn't even call him an absent father which he was or question how sure he was that she didn't care about her offsprings. Ironic, right? She instead accepted it was her fault that she dozed off... That it was her fault she overslept, which made her a careless mother... She finally added how it was her fault the fire started... And sealed it with an apology.

The neighbors, unshocked, slowly started dispersing.

He went back to the house and took a jacket and left saying how he can't sleep in a smoke-filled dimly lit house. She rose from the borehole with a half smile. I may feel bad about the fire but at least now I will sleep in peace... She thought to herself.
