My Hair and Honey

in freewrite •  6 years ago

I don't know who loves honey the most; Me or my hair? Lol

I am a natural hair enthusiast and a naturalista. I never really paid attention to honey except for the part that I will prefer it to sugar in my tea until I had my big chop in 2016.

And ooh, was I weird ? I really looked funny. I didn't know how small my head was until the chop.

So for the first three months while I research on how to retain growth and grow an healthy hair, I bought caps and wore them everywhere. There were so many products to help ease the transition but I didn't have the money. So, I learnt about a lot of DIY's and I preferred the ones with honey mostly because my grandma sends a keg of honey every month. I knew I wouldn't be having trouble getting them and I also made sure to get cheapest but reliable products to help my hair growth

(#5 minutes) stop

For shampoo; I bought black soaps
For moisturizer; I use water
For sealant: I bought shea butter (This is to seal in the moisture)

New growth

When my new growth started coming up, I wash my hair every week and I deep condition every two weeks.

Deep conditioning

This is where honey takes lead. I had three deep DIY's conditioning.

  1. Honey and avocado.
  2. Honey and banana.
  3. Honey and eggs.

According to my research, Honey helps strengthen the hair, it treats the scalp (Healthy scalp gives great growth) and it reduces breakage.

It's funny, because you actually need to be able to achieve these three things whilst growing your hair and coincidentally Honey had all three properties, so its a win win...

I enjoyed growing my hair and it really taught me persistence.

I don't deep condition with DIY's as much as I do before, now I can afford to get the products. But, once in a while if I see the ingredients lying around, I do it.

Whenever people ask me for hair tips I make sure to start with honey. It really did me good.

Pic 1: This is me with a wig, this is me on most days. The natural hair needs protection. So my go too protective styles are wigs and braids.

Pic 2: My natural hair after a good conditioning and twist in. Once in a while, I love to be this girl.

Pic 3: This is the devil in me. Days I do not tame my hair and let it run wild. This I do when I feel like intimidating my friends ( Lol, I am not so nice)

Maybe I can make a more informative article on my hair growth in the coming weeks.

Who doesn't like hair? :-D
I once had a friend who was a natural. She used natural products for both hair and skin, especially avocado and carrots. Not sure which one went where, but she always looked great.

OMG, i gotta call her sometime. I am terrible at keeping friends. lol.

Lol...

Huhn, you should call her.

Err... No.
