Day 169: 5 Minute Freewrite Challenge initiated by @mariannewest. Friday-Prompt: atlas

LOST AGAIN

I have no sense of direction and get lost...a lot. A friend of mine gave me an atlas and I appreciated the thought, but that didn't help because I don't even know how to read a map. I don't have a fancy phone to give me directions and forget about those GPS navigators for your car where the voices yell, "Turn left here! Turn right here!" That just scares me and makes me slam on my brakes, almost causing an accident. Count traffic lights for me and give me landmarks please. And when I ask how to get back home from here, please do not tell me "The same way you got here," because I do not know how I got here! And don't tell me to go north, east, south or west because those directions constantly move for me. Example: If north is at 12:00, I know that east is at 12:15, south is at 12:30, and west is at 12:45. But, if I move my body to 12:15, that becomes north for me and changes everything. Yup, I get lost in my own back yard.

You should have come scouting and camping with me 😉

I would have loved that! : )

I guess you meant it in a more practical sense, but whenever you don't know what to do, don't worry :) Life has a way of working out! :D
Good work!

Isn't that the truth! Whenever I get lost, I just tell myself that I will get there...eventually. And like you said, the same goes with any situation in life.
Thanks for your compliment! : )

Ha! I'm going to be using your whereami tag! I can't stand it when a copilot suddenly tells me to turn! They should have said it was coming up!
Without my phone app, I need people to tell me landmarks. (Take a left at the church with the purple door and head past the overgrown hedge that looks like a fat Elvis impersonator.) I can find my way well enough when I'm in the woods but put me in a car and it's like the lost voyage of the Enterprise!

HaHa! You are such a trip! And, of course the door would just have to be purple! LOL! Thanks for the prompts! : )

I, too, prefer to have directions written down on a piece of paper so I can glance at it along the way. If I have written it down myself, it is likelier to stick in my head so I don't have to glance as often. I don't trust GPS. It sent an old friend of mine down what is basically a dirt bike track in the woods to get to my house. It isn't even a road, fer cryin' out loud!

OMG! You cracked me up about your poor friend! That is hilarious! Thanks for stopping by! : )

Sorry for the late reply. I needed to recuperate from dental surgery. : (

Ew. I am not at all fond of dental procedures. Hope you are all better now!

Ha ha! Funny story! I laughed loudly at the end of the story with the last sentence, “Yup, I get lost in my own back yard”. Good job! ;D

It is nice to hear that you got a good laugh from my story. You gave me a laugh with your comment. Thanks sis! : )

You're welcome! ;)

Haha, sounds like me at work. Some places I can get to, if from same starting point. Sometimes I think I know where I'm going and turn gps off, only to miss a turn. Yup, count lights here too, or stop signs. Never could get n/s/e/w crap.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that you are the same way. LOL! And when I have good directions (on paper) it will take me at least 3 trips before I can get there without having to use the directions again. : )

And all the darned construction isn't helping. One road now has all trees ripped out for a blasted round-a-bout. Now it really throws me off.

When you use the bloody gps thing you never look around so you don't learn anything.. so basically that torture tool giving you orders basically makes you depending from it.. ok a bit tragic maybe but I hate it 😅

Lol, funny but true. I had not thought of that. Reading maps has become extinct. At my work, in order to promote to assistant or leader, you had to be able to read a map and also do math. Since everything can be done on our devices, no one does them with using their brains.

Heh that's a big issue, depending from the same things that promise you independence..and most of the times not even being aware of it!

HaHa! I hate those round-a-bouts! A sure way to get lost again! LOL! : )

No doubt and lucky us, they are putting them everywhere. They cause more accidents and traffic backups than lights.

Congratulations @whatisnew! You have received a personal award!
