Here is my 5-minute freewrite to @mariannewest's prompt for today:
Dressed her best, she sits waiting in line for her turn.
She just graduated from college, with Honors. Undeniably, she got the brains and her professors couldn't be more proud of her. SHe got all the attention, more than she wished for.
At home though, she is just but a nobody. Her parents do not care about her studies, her achievements, much more her life. They are quite vocal about their disappointment on her sudden existence. They say that they were at the peak of their careers -- Mom being a dancer and Dad, a soon-to-be pilot. But because she came rather unexpectedly, their lives came to a halt. Mom and Dad constantly blame her for that, and they just made sure she knew about it.
Today is her scheduled interview with a much-acclaimed advertising company. She knew she could nail the interview. Her professors told her so. No doubt about it.
But then, at the back of her mind, she saw the picture of her parents. With that thought, she absent-mindedly bites her nails -- a habit she had been fighting from childhood.
She feels less anxious when she bites her first fingernail, and as she was waiting for her turn, she continuously bites her fingernails, until...
"Next!"
It is finally her turn to be interviewed. She took a look at her fingers. All ten nails were crookedly trimmed. A little relieved, she sighed, smiled from within as she stands up brushing off at the chipped fingernails on her skirt.

Wao, you here pulled my heart's strings. I don't know whether or not to be sad. many children grow up as such, and yes, nail-biting is about the most they do to relieve the tension...the habit as it is for the young woman, here, easily persist even to adulthood Thanks for the write.
This is easily one of the best writes of the day, certainly not the most rewarded, but literary-wise, for me it ranks there on top.
Thanks.
Meanwhile. I am the post-bird here to serve you a special dish prepared by @mariannewest: Today's prompt:
