I have seen many phones in my life. When I was young we had a musical play phone that we could drag behind us and it would make a ringing sound. The first phone I remember in my house was a rotary phone. It was very confusing, and hard to use because I was little.
The next phone we had was almost the same, but it had buttons. It was still attached to the wall and we would buy a very long cord, so we could take it from one room to the next. There were pay phones which we never had money for. Some mothers would sew phone money in their kids’ clothes, but I always called collect.
Then we had some fancy cordless phones that had a built-in message recorder. We could record a message and callers could leave a message. We had a sit-down dinner so when telemarketers called in the evenings, we unplugged the phone.
To put someone on hold you put the receiver down. And if you picked up another phone in the house you had to check if someone else was using it, and then ask them how much longer they would be.
Eventually the cordless phone turned into a portable phone which turned into cell phones. Then the cell phones turned into computers. Most people have a cell phone, but not a land line.
Ding!

Thanks to @snook for this super cool gif!
Great freewrite! I think we walked a similar path phone wise! I loved that phone that you could pull along and would make a noise. I probably played with it when I was older than I should have been! LOL! I liked the rotary dial phone. There is something about the noise it made. Having said that I hated using the phone (still not a huge fan) and used to avoid it as a kid if I could!

I liked when the first cordless phones came out and we were free from the wall!!! Now I carry my phone everywhere.

I have really never enjoyed talking on the phone. The only person I really ever talk with is my mom, because she doesn't really like to do the messaging thing. Everyone else, just message me, please!
Great freewrite. It's crazy to think what our phones hold now as opposed to even 20 years ago.

This is pretty much the same path that I experienced with phones. In our area, we had party lines. People used to be able to listen in to your other calls. It caused a lot of Gossip in the neighborhood! Nice job with the prompt.
