The first round of the Beta Review Group is over!

It took a long time to get started, but we finally finished our first @freewritehouse beta review. It was a learning experience for all of us I think, but the next one will go much smoother.

Because I expected we'd have some issues on the first go round, I used one of my manuscripts to test it out. I was the guinea pig. Many of you figured that out but if you didn't, surprise!

Everything I found out was helpful - both the good and not so good feedback. You can see my short review of it on my post Benefits of a Beta Review.

What's next

The main way the group communicates is email. I send the announcements, updates, review materials, and replies via email. I use Mailchimp to simplify the process and make sure everyone gets the emails.

On a quick side note, if you join the Beta Readers Group now, you'll automatically get a welcome email (new members only) and the training email too.

However, some people didn't notice the emails even if they got them. For the next review, I will also keep the materials on a website so people can access them easily if emails are lost or buried.

We need writers!

We the Beta group started, several of the members said they'd be ready for a review in 1-3 months. Well, we're darn close if not more than three months.

Are any of you ready?

Yes, I'm looking at you!

If any of you is ready to have your manuscript reviewed, just fill out the Writer's Submission form.

Aren't in the Beta group? That's ok! Anyone can submit a manuscript for review. It just needs to be final or near final form. What does that mean? It means you think it's probably good to go, you've edited the heck out of it and think you've found every last typo (don't worry, we'll find some!).

Not sure if I was supposed to or not, but I didn't receive a manuscript to read. I have a little ways to go on my mine yet, probably a month. Only have 2 chapters edited. Maybe sooner, can't wait!

Hey @balticbadger it looks like you opened every email except the one with the book for review. It was sent on March 26 with the title First Book for Review.

The good news is you are getting the emails, even if one got overlooked.

As soon as you're ready fill out that form and we'll get you in the pipeline!

Still not seeing it, I will try and login on a computer today and see if somehow I'm missing it on my mobile. Now, we can both get back to editing! 😂 have a nice day!

I checked my email for March 26 (and all March and April) but didn't see a Freewrite email or a document (is it in Google?). And 8 days after this posted, I find this post. Sorry I missed out!

Hi @carolkean, according to mail chimp you received the review email on March 21 but it was never opened. Some received it later because they joined to group after it went out. It also show that you opened the training email and the update to the review email on March 23. But their open status is often wrong. The subject was “First book for review”. Maybe check your spam or promotions folder? I know gmail will hide things sometimes and say it’s in the inbox but it isn’t there until you search for it. If you can’t find anything comment back here and I will send you a test email to make sure you’re good to go for the next one.

I was wondering how it went for you!! Zooms over to read your post now. :)

(This writer should be ready by end of May at the latest!)
