Communicating or communicating? Art or the way...

in french •  7 years ago

By communicating the art of communicating with you, I sharpen my communication skills. The difference? It is to be found between the state and action.

A state of mind

Communicating doesn't make someone communicating. The communicant is a person, qualified by the innate art of communication: a quality in short! However, according to the dear Immortals of the French Academy, the term communicant is strictly limited to "an author speaking in front of a learned society, an assembly", and is to be avoided in any other circumstance.

But let's praise the devil: little Robert and fat Larousse! agree to broaden the definition of communicant to a "communications specialist".

Art is one way

One would almost forget the communicator, this kind of naughty provocative (and ugly?) communicator, gifted for media polemic. Although literate, the Littré invokes a cult of 16th century Anabaptists... By force, one loses its Latin: too much communication kills communication.

The rules of the game: the French exception

Just remember that verbs (of the present participant) ending with -quant can also be nouns (substantial verbal objective) that are declined by -cant only if they have no -tion in their family of words. Demo:

  • By not smuggling traffic, so always a smuggler.
  • Conversely: by communicating, communication, always a communicator! Even a communicator...

I told you I would, I promise. I told you everything! No need for revisions, the clocks are on time.
