Friday Rocks- Bowls full of treasures

in fridayrocks •  6 years ago  (edited)

For @nat-expressions weekly challenge called #fridaysrock! The challenge is to share your favorite rocks and minerals.

When I am traveling I simply can't stop myself from picking up the beautiful rocks that I see on beaches or hillsides or along the roads when I'm out for a walk. I have often come back home with rocks in my suitcases. And then once I get home I tend to fill various bowls and containers with my beautiful treasures!

This bowl sits in the center of my dining room table, and I try not to fill it to the brim because it gets too heavy for when I need to move it to put a tablecloth on and set the table!

Some of my rocks are in containers out on the back porch, and some rocks sit on shelves. This big crystal bowl is near the front door and I love it when someone is interested enough to sift through them and ask questions!

Sometimes I remember where a particular rock came from and the story that goes with it. And others are simply pretty rocks that I have found along the way! That slice of turquoise from New Mexico is a particular favorite.

Do you have a favorite rock? Or five, or 6?

I too remember stories that come with some of the agates and stones I've found! Good memories even when my buddy's footprint was right next to one that I found! I had a good laugh and he was bitter for not seeing it. I've had to pass up a lot of rocks that look like some of yours (Granite, perhaps?) or my house will be filled to the roof with them!

Thanks for sharing to the #rockhound tag! I may as well monitor this one! I know it can be confusing to remember which name has the S, the tag or the account, so I've adopted #rockhounds since we are all #rockhounds anyways.

Your #fridaysrock tag by @nat-expressions is also wrong, as you've placed the s at the end instead of in the middle :P So many problems with S's :D But no worries! You can't change the first one anyways but thanks for sharing!

Keep Houndin!

#rockhound is the tag for #rockhounds! Manually curated by @rockhounds / @bitfiend! Share your rocks! If you want to contribute to the curation of the #rockhound tag let me know and I'll add your name to this signature!

Oh no! I keep messing up those S's! Not the first time and probably won't be the last. Joshua Tree has really unique geology... I saw this description... granitic rock called monzogranite. I love stone collecting stories!

Rock n Rolling again! And i forgot to rock again this week darn! ; )

You can join in anytime! It's not specifically limited to Friday! I'd love to see your rocks!

I loved collecting rocks when i was a kid! I keep forgetting to take photos of any

Rock on!

Thanks so much!

the first and last photo were really great

Thanks so much!

You welcome dear. Have a good night, how have you been?

It is snowing at my house and I'm all covered up with a blanket and have a fire going in the fireplace.

I spent most of the day in the kitchen and made two pots of soup one with potatoes and leeks, and the other one is a bean soup. I sent a couple containers home with my daughter for her family and I put a few containers in the freezer for me for later in the winter to eat when I don't feel like cooking.

How about you? How was your day?

It is always good to have food ready when you do not feel like cooking. I was working on some balloon arrangements that I must deliver on Monday. I had never done these. But everything that is work is good and now I make some paper flowers...

You have really been keeping busy!

A little but that's good. How is everything going for Thanksgiving dinner?

I am just beginning to put together my grocery shopping list. Everyone is making decisions about what they would like to bring. There are enough of us that by the time everyone brings one of their favorite things I am not left with much cooking to do. It makes the meal pretty easy for me to prepare!

Wow colourful rocks

Some of them certainly are!

howdy melinda010100! lol. a true rock hound thing to do. Those are some great looking rocks too!

My dad has a friend from Germany, he has the same habit, he's gathering rocks from wherever he goes and keeping them in the garden.

I have many out in the garden! Jim used to tease me about my rocks, but I think he had just as much fun rock hunting as I did!

It's a great habit if you ask me. I have a box full of interesting rocks but those are small.

You should do a #fridayrocks post, too!

I should do many things 😟

Hahaha! That's the truth, for me, too!

Thank you for sharing this with the #fridaysrock tag. I'm smiling now because I also put my rocks in bowls and other containers so that I can enjoy them. I would sift through yours and ask about them. :)

We ARE kindred spirits! I would love to see all of yours, too!

:)

@melinda010100 💕 Wow!!!
Your bowls of rocks are so beautiful!
I would love to also sit and look
through them asking where and
when!
Brings a big smile to my face to
see your love for stones!! :-)
I've got quite a few holding my
desk down right now haha

A favorite? at least a baker's dozen!!
I'd say that is a hard thing to pick one
but if it was just one, Agate is my most
loved and collected.

In your glass bowl I see snowflake
obsidian and tiger eye I think.
What is the white grey one in the
upper right side of bowl? Looks
like a artifact for something. In the
last photo above the turquoise.

@Shasta I didn't answer your comment last night because I thought that if I gave myself an overnight to think about that funny shaped rock, I might remember where it came from. I still don't. It is one of those times when I really really wish I could ask Jim that question because I know he would remember. Actually he's the one that picked it up and added it to my stash of rocks that I had on the floor of the pickup truck on our trip to the Southwest. I'm pretty sure that's when we collected that one, but my mind is a total blank about what and where!

Sometimes I'll remember something after
a few days and sometimes not :-)
It looks like a old tool almost, the hole and
other part half circle shapes. What kind of
rock substance do you think it is?

Maybe some company will
know @melinda010100

I still don't remember! It may have been on one of our trips out west 10 years ago. It's almost a soft chalky kind of substance and I remember being a little disappointed when he added it to our rocks that we had collected and thinking well that's not really a rock! Maybe it came from a hot spring? I tried to find something online that might be like it, but didn't come up with anything. I will keep trying to remember.

Lebkuchen!!! I knew I seen that word somewhere, it was
when I right clicked on your rock above and searched
on google to see if it would show something similar
and it showed lebkuchen as the closest match!! LOL

No way! It's my favorite cookie! And it is not at all rock-like! 😂

Lovely selection of rocks. People who are interested in the mementos in your house are good finds :)

Or they are my grandkids! Thanks!
