Rock and mineral macro video: Activate.Alpha's and My rock finds from Diamond Hill mine

in fridayrocks •  6 years ago  (edited)

We got up early one morning and headed North East into South Carolina to find some great rocks and crystals.

This is my entry for @nat-expressions weekly challenge called #fridaysrock.

Spending most of the day there we found many gems, tossing back some at the end of the day. As many found in the beginning of the day were not as nice as we thought by the end of the day.

You can find the blog of us going to the mine here: https://steemit.com/fridaysrock/@solominer/p0g11u03

We organized our favorites, and I show them off and discuss the features of the rocks. I found some great smoky quartz stones, along with quartz crystals. Some clear, some with iron and some with iron and manganese.

Shout out to @carrieallen for inviting me into the @helpie community recently. I invited her to #fridaysrock as she has found some Quartz in Colorado and I hope she shares them with us in the future.

Awesome lookin rock! I'm going to have to dig through some of mine and snag the very best ones, I have to admit I don't have something like this but I have something in mind that could be similar!

@bitfiend

thanks much, Im always amazed what we pull out of the ground from the Diamond Hill mine.

Yeah you should, look forward to you posting it on @fridaysrock

You and I both! Keep'em coming!

The first one looks really great.
The second rock does not look too special to me but still is quite nice.
I really like the shape of the third one, Mario turtles for the win my friend haha.
Number four looks intersting.
Five looks kind of cute; and "smooth".
Six is my new favorite of this video (because it is very shiny); after that comes the first crsytal.
And I agree with you on number seven. It definitely is a pretty specimen.
Well, the little 'house like' crystal looks fantastic - probably shares the first spot/place with number six.

@gandalfthewhite

Glad you like them, we spent most of the day collecting them and we were really impressed with what we found.

The second one was more or less just a giant piece of smoky quartz.

Yeah the mario turtle shell is a great one.

Five is a little piece, might look good mounted to something.

I really do and I am impressed too. I think and hope you can call that a successful day?

It definitely is beautiful but in my opinion you have found even more special pieces.

Concerning the number five, 6:21 that angle of view of the crystal is great.

@gandalfthewhite

As long as we find more rocks than the cost of the cover we think it was a sucessful day. It costs $20 for each of us to dig, and usually I bring home at least $100 in crystals (though I have not successfully sold any).

Yeah that little crystal is a beauty, its very small though. Maybe some of these really small ones I can mount to some nice wood and see if people want to buy them.

Another fine specimen.

@cosmiccrimes

thanks much, ive been noticing a pattern of iron and manganese in alot of stones from the Diamond Hill mine.

Interesting observation. I wonder what it means.

Probably a good place to mine for iron or manganese. Just like Graves Mountain has been mined for their common stones for a long time as well.

That's so cool. You never know, you may find sky metal from the heavens!

@cosmiccrimes

I would love that, though the terrain around me is against me. Better to search for those dry lake beds or frozen lake beds. But you never know.. hah maybe one day ill find some in the forest.

I would love to explore an dry lake bed. They are not such thing as dry anything here lol.
However they drained a lake in tenn I went there with somebody and it was so weird. Old sunken boathouses was reveleaed. I wish I had a camera at the Time.

@cosmiccrimes

haha wow thats cool Id want to check out that drained lake.. Bring a metal detector.

Great video! I always learn a lot from you!

@melinda010100

Thank you.. That makes me very happy to hear, though I hope everything I say is 100% accurate. I did not study this in school so its more or less stuff ive learned from other rockhounds and on the internet.

No matter... You know much more than I do and I appreciate you sharing the things you have learned!

Thank you for sharing this and for using the #fridaysrock tag. Very interesting!

@nat-expressions

Ah no problem, its been alot of fun sharing it on Fridays, and even Mondays when I have overflow material.

Glad you find it interesting, ive been learning alot too when I find rocks and research them.
