Firday's Rock! - Bar Magnetite W/Siderite and Apatite - Possibly Martite

in fridaysrock •  6 years ago  (edited)

Update - I was blogging on a mineral site about this and a guy from Australia said this may be Martite (hematite after magnetite pseudomorph). I won't know for sure until I go back to Japan and test my other specimen.

Friday's Rock on a Saturday! With bitcoin breaking $10k I had to blog about it yesterday didn't want to double post on a Friday, so here we are.

This is a really fucking rare magnetite specimen that I sold to another dealer in Japan. That's ok though because I have another one.

The crystal formation is really weird. The magnetites sandwiched on top of one another to form this stack. Then some siderite(orange) and apatite(clear) crystals decided to join the party and attached themselves to the chain.

I was so lucky, the woman selling these had set them aside for me because she knew I was coming to buy more specimens from her. Such a wonderful thing to do.

Anyway, like my other magnetite specimens I've blogged about, these came from the same mine in Utah. I'm in the process of acquiring more from here and even venturing out to the mine to see if there are any more!

Thanks for reading!

This is such a cool looking rock @rt395! Sound like it cost an arm and a leg
being so rare and trippy! Hope you acquire some more! :-)

I'm bummed I didn't take a profile shot so you could really see how they were pancake stacked. It was pricey, but I doubled my money on it so it worked out. Actually doubling is not very good for Japan, we usually get 5x plus, but it was another dealer and you have to make deals with them.

Oh, I am going to buy every single specimen my friend has because I talked to a Utah OG who lives in the area these were found and he said they are incredibly rare.

Thanks!

What an interesting rock! It looks like some kind of insect to me, very hard scale on the wing! Very beautiful to behold!

Thanks @kaminchan, it is an odd looking specimen because of its structure. Beautiful.

Oh! That's a beauty! I've certainly never seen anything like it.
